One Reason Why Jamel Dean Hopes Aaron Rodgers Re-Signs With The Steelers

Jamel Dean is officially a Pittsburgh Steeler after signing his three-year deal Friday afternoon, and while there still remains some uncertainty for the Black and Gold at quarterback, Dean hopes Aaron Rodgers re-signs soon.

And not just because the Steelers need a starting quarterback to help them compete for a Super Bowl, either.

Speaking with reporters Friday, Dean stated he wants Rodgers to re-sign with the Steelers so he can cash in on a play he made five years ago.

That play? His pick-six against Rodgers came in 2020 and was one of just five interceptions Rodgers threw in his MVP season.

Dean wants the ball signed.

“I am looking forward to him signing back ’cause I have that same football, I’m needing him to sign it,” Dean said, according to video via the Steelers’ YouTube page. “So, I’ve been waiting like five years just to be able to ask him like, ‘Hey, you remember this ball, pick-six, right?’ I’ve been meaning for you to sign this ball for so many years and I think this is a good time to do it now.”

Here is that Dean pick-6.

Nice play to jump that out route and pick off Rodgers. Dean made it even better by taking it to the house for his first career pick-six It took him another six years to do that in the NFL again, with a 75-yard pick-six against the New York Jets last season.

Hopefully he can make some of those same plays in Pittsburgh, too.

Getting Rodgers to sign the pick-six ball won’t be anything new for him. Dean would just be the latest in a long line of young players who have made plays against the iconic quarterback, one of the greatest to ever play the game.

In 2024, former Steelers cornerback Beanie Bishop Jr. picked Rodgers off twice in a Sunday Night Football matchup against the Jets at Acrisure Stadium. Bishop got both footballs signed. Houston Texans safety Calen Bullock stated after the Wild Card win over the Steelers last season, in which he had a pick-six to seal the win, that he wanted the football signed.

Now Dean wants to complete the pick-six he had against Rodgers in 2020 by getting the ball signed. Rodgers has been a good sport about it in the past, especially with Bishop. With Dean now a Steeler, it’s likely Rodgers will oblige him, too.
