Arsenal have reportedly opened talks with Declan Rice over a new long-term contract.

The 27-year-old midfielder is one of Mikel Arteta’s most important players and has undoubtedly established himself among the best players in the world in his position.

With his current deal set to expire in the summer of 2028, Arsenal are keen to tie him down to a new contract.

According to BBC journalist Sami Mokbel, Arsenal have now opened talks with Rice and his representatives over fresh terms.

Discussions between the parties are understood to be at an early stage, with no definitive timeline for when the deal could be finalised.

The Gunners have successfully agreed new contracts with several key players in Arteta’s squad over the past 12 months. Gabriel Magalhães, William Saliba, Myles Lewis-Skelly, Ethan Nwaneri and most recently Bukayo Saka have all penned new deals.

Since joining the club from London rivals West Ham United in the summer of 2023, Rice has made 102 Premier League appearances for Arsenal.
