The Green Bay Packers‘ fan base have been begging Brian Gutekunst and the front office to address the clear issue at the cornerback position in NFL free agency.

So far, the team has not done anything at cornerback other than to release Nate Hobbs and the move to sign Benjamin St-Juste. After watching the secondary fail time and time again last year, especially after Micah Parsons went down with injury, something needs to be done.

With that being said, a new opportunity to improve has been gifted to Green Bay.

According to a report from ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, the Tennessee Titans have decided to release veteran cornerback L’Jarius Sneed.

“Titans are releasing CB L’Jarius Sneed, which will save Tennessee $11.4 million against the cap, per sources,” Schefter wrote on X. “Titans informed Snead’s agents, the Katz Brothers, of their decision today; Sneed now will become a free agent.”

Green Bay Should Pounce on the Chance to Sign L’Jarius Sneed

Granted, there are concerns about Sneed’s inability to stay healthy over the last two years with the Titans. However, his talent was clear during his tenure with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Throughout his two years in Tennessee, the 29-year-old cornerback recorded 49 tackles to go along with three defended passes. Back in 2023 with the Chiefs, Sneed racked up 78 tackles, a fumble recovery, two interceptions, and 14 defended passes.

While he was with Kansas City, Sneed was a big part of winning two Super Bowls.

No one should expect Sneed to come in and be a superstar for the Packers should the team take a flier on him. That being said, his talent level would be a major upgrade. Due to him being released by the Titans, Green Bay also wouldn’t be giving up a potential compensatory draft pick in 2027.

Sneed isn’t going to demand a hefty contract. That, along with his talent level, should make him a potential target for the Packers.

What Do the Packers Currently Have at the Cornerback Position?

As of right now, the Packers are projected to start Keisean Nixon, Carrington Valentine, and Javon Bullard at cornerback. St-Juste was a depth addition who could play a decent role if called upon.

On paper, Sneed would be a better option than either Nixon or Valentine. His health would be a key factor, but at full health he would be an upgrade for Green Bay over either of the projected starting corners.

Past the top four cornerbacks on the depth chart, the Packers have Tyron Herring, Bo Melton, and Kamal Hadden.

Heading into the 2026 NFL season without more proven players at cornerback would be a mistake. At the very least, Gutekunst and the front office could sign Sneed and draft another cornerback in the upcoming 2026 NFL Draft.

Whether or not Green Bay will have interest in Sneed or not remains to be seen. But, he would be worth taking a gamble on for the Packers.
