Ty Simpson's Browns' Dreams Receive Bad News Before NFL Draft

Alabama star QB Ty Simpson recently pitched himself to the Cleveland Browns. In an appearance on “Up & Adams,” he gushed about head coach Todd Monken and even said that he’d love to team up with WR Carnell Tate in Berea.

Simpson’s father is close to Coach Monken, and given the Browns’ never-ending quarterback issues, he might be an option for them at No. 6 or No. 24.

However, Browns insider Tony Grossi just doesn’t see that happening right now. Talking on ESPN Cleveland Radio, Grossi argued that they would most likely take Penn State’s Drew Allar instead:

“No, I have no energy devoted toward that scenario. In fact, I stand by my stance when I said at the combine, there’s a greater chance the Browns draft Drew Allar than Ty Simpson,” Grossi said.

Grossi doubled down on his prediction by stating that even if Simpson were to slide like Shedeur Sanders last season, the Browns would probably choose Allar over him:

“I don’t think so. I think, as long as Allar is on the board, they’ll take Allar over Simpson,” Grossi concluded.

Allar was projected as a top-5 pick before the start of the past college football season. He’s an Ohio native, and even after a disappointing season with the Nitanny Lions, he might be a solid developmental project for any quarterback-needy team.

That said, the Browns already have two young quarterbacks, including Sanders. This quarterback class isn’t particularly deep, as not even Fernando Mendoza looks like a potential superstar.

That’s why the Browns might choose to address other areas of their roster instead of using a first-round pick on Simpson. As for Allar, he might make sense late in Day 2 or early in Day 3 if the value makes sense and he’s still up for grabs.
