Closing out a back-to-back set on Friday, March 13, the Dallas Mavericks are hosting the Cleveland Cavaliers in Texas for a matchup.
As expected, the Mavericks have a loaded injury report, but it’s not all bad news. There will be some returning players after the Mavericks’ Thursday night win over the struggling Memphis Grizzlies. Klay Thompson is on pace to suit up.

Heading into the Grizzlies matchup, the Mavericks downgraded the veteran sharpshooter Klay Thompson.
While Thompson wasn’t dealing with any notable setbacks, the standout guard was issued a night off for resting purposes.

Thompson’s Run With The Mavericks
Steph Curry and Klay Thompson
GettySteph Curry and Klay Thompson were known as the Splash Brothers.
The Mavericks signed Thompson during the 2024 NBA offseason. For Thompson, it was the first time he changed teams in his NBA career.
At the time, the Mavericks were coming off an NBA Finals run that ended with the Boston Celtics hoisting the trophy. Luka Doncic and the Mavs hoped the addition of Thompson would help them run it back with better results.
However, the previous Mavs front office had different plans. Doncic was shockingly included in a trade that was headlined by Los Angeles Lakers big man, Anthony Davis. Doncic is with the Lakers for the long-term. Davis is already out of Dallas in under two years.
Thompson’s name was kicked around as a potential trade piece, but there was never any traction on that front throughout the 2025-2026 NBA season.
The 35-year-old has appeared in 58 games for the Mavs this season. He is shooting 39% from the field and 38% from three to produce 11.9 points per game. Along with his scoring, Thompson is averaging 2.3 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game.
The Mavericks won’t go far this year, as they are sitting 22-44 two weeks into March. With that record, they hold the Western Conference’s 12th seed. The Mavs are nearly 10 games out of the NBA Play-In Tournament.
On Friday, Dallas and Cleveland will tip at 7:30 PM ET.
