Tennessee parted ways with a $76.4M defender who appeared in just a dozen games during his Titans' tenure.

The writing has been on the wall for the Tennessee Titans to release L’Jarius Sneed. That move finally landed on Friday with NFL free agency in full swing, as an unsurprisingtermination reached its logical conclusion.

By cutting the former Kansas City Chiefs‘ cornerback, the Tennessee Titans will save approximately $11.4 million in cap space — money they desperately need as GM Mike Borgonzi continues an aggressive roster overhaul alongside new HC Robert Saleh.

NFL Free Agency: Tennessee Titans Cut L’Jarius Sneed

The Titans are releasing Sneed, per Adam Schefter of ESPN. The move comes just days before a March 16 guarantee trigger worth $7.5 million that would have locked Tennessee into even more dead money, according to Justin Melo of TitanSized. Borgonzi and the Tennessee Titans clearly had no interest in letting that date pass.

This one stings from a pure asset standpoint. The Titans traded a 2025 third-round pick to the Kansas City Chiefs to acquire Sneed in March 2024, and then former GM Ran Carthon immediately handed him a four-year, $76.4 million extension with plenty of guaranteed money.

What did Tennessee get in return? Twelve games, 37 combined tackles, and zero interceptions over two seasons. Sneed was a shell of the two-time Super Bowl champion who thrived in Kansas City, where he racked up 10 interceptions and 6.5 sacks across four seasons. In Tennessee, injuries torpedoed everything.

Sneed was placed on injured reserve with a quad injury in October 2025 after battling through similar issues in 2024.

Who Did the Titans Sign in Free Agency?

The Titans didn’t wait around during the NFL free agency period this week. Borgonzi attacked the cornerback market this week with north of $100 million in spending on three new defensive backs. Alontae Taylor signed for $58 million, Cor’Dale Flott landed a three-year, $45 million deal with $32 million guaranteed, and Joshua Williams added a $10 million pact.

The Titans also bolstered the defensive front, signing John Franklin-Myers to a three-year, $63 million deal. Franklin-Myers has a deep connection to Saleh from their Jets days together. Tennessee’s defense ranked 21st in yards and 28th in points allowed in 2025, so this level of aggressive offseason spending was necessary.

Jeffrey Simmons will finally have some new talent flocking to the ball with him at Nissan Stadium in September. The Titans likely aren’t done in free agency yet, as the team still has plenty of cap space to work with.

Now, Titans fans wait and wonder: will Calvin Ridley be on this roster through the summer? There have been plenty of cases made by fans and analysts to either keep or cut Ridley, but we might have to play the waiting game to reach the final verdict on that situation
