Newcastle United XI vs Chelsea: Predicted lineup and confirmed team news

Anthony Gordon is feeling better ahead of Newcastle United’s Premier League trip to Chelsea on Saturday evening, Eddie Howe has confirmed.

Howe’s side, of course, have much bigger fish to fry right now, with their Premier League campaign effectively dead in the water.

Indeed, Newcastle United will surely prioritise next week’s trip to Barcelona in the Champions League over the visit to Stamford Bridge on Tuesday.

With that in mind, here’s a look at Newcastle United’s predicted XI, injury latest and confirmed team news.

Newcastle United predicted XI vs Chelsea

Tino Livramento’s return offers Howe a welcome boost.

With Kieran Trippier having played so often recently, it would not be a surprise to see him start at right-back instead of the veteran.

Newcastle United confirmed team news vs Chelsea

Howe has confirmed that Gordon is back up to speed.

Gordon could not start against Barcelona due to illness but, as Howe says: “He trained yesterday, so feels better. I do have to clear something up with Anthony Gordon.

“He was absolutely willing to play in the game against Barcelona. It was my decision not to start him, based on the fact that he’d been ill that morning and hadn’t attended the training session. So he was prepared to play, but in consultation with the medical team we didn’t think he was fit to play.”

The Newcastle United manager has also confirmed that Lewis Miley has stepped up his recovery, but that this game will come too soon for him.

“He’s on the grass now, running again and working incredibly hard, but all the feedback I’ve had from the medical team is that we just have to be careful with this injury.

“We don’t want it to turn into something a lot more serious. So it’s gone on longer than anyone had hoped but the main thing is that he comes back fit.”

Newcastle United injuries vs Chelsea

Miley isn’t the only player ruled out of the game.

Bruno Guimaraes is still injured for Newcastle, along with Fabian Schar.

The pair, however, could make their returns from hamstring and ankle injuries in April.

That will be a huge boost for the club, who are hopefully still playing European football at that stage of the campaign.
