The Seahawks could strike trade for a new star running back.
The Seattle Seahawks are still in the market for a new starting running back with Kenneth Walker signing with the Kansas City Chiefs. It is more than a challenge as the NFL free agent market is quickly drying up.
Seattle signed former Green Bay Packers veteran Emanuel Wilson. It remains to be seen just how much of a role Wilson can carve out within the Seahawks offense.
New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara has been the subject of NFL trade rumors. The Saints just signed Travis Etienne to a lucrative new $52 million deal, prompting questions about Kamara’s future with the franchise.
It just so happens the Seahawks are still in the market for a veteran running back. Let’s examine Kamara’s fit with the Seahawks as a potential trade target.
Seahawks Rumors: Saints RB Alvin Kamara Is Being Floated as a Potential NFL Trade Candidate
Seattle may be able to pry Kamara away from New Orleans for a low price. Seattle Sports’ Stacy Rost makes the case for the Seahawks striking a trade for Kamara.
“But Seattle doesn’t necessarily need the best version of Kamara,” Rost detailed in a March 13, 2026, story titled, “Stacy: Could an Alvin Kamara trade be Seahawks’ answer at RB?” “They just need another dynamic weapon, and Kamara would give them that (it’s a possible trade former Seahawks receiver Bryan Walters has mentioned in interviews with Bump and Stacy).
“You’d love to have prime Kamara, of course, but Seattle could also use veteran depth out of the backfield and as a pass catcher. And this version wouldn’t command too much in return, with an SI mock having the Broncos sending a fifth-round pick to get him in a trade,” Rost added.
“This isn’t just offseason rambling — there’s a real question about Kamara’s future in New Orleans, and according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter it’s a situation other teams are monitoring.”
Possible Seahawks’ Seahawks Trade Target Alvin Kamara Is on a $24 Million Contract
Kamara is heading into the final season of a two-year, $24.5 million contract. The running back has a projected $10.5 million cap hit in 2026, per Spotrac.
Last season, Kamara posted 131 carries for 471 rushing yards and one touchdown. Kamara added 33 receptions for 186 yards during 11 starts in 2025.
NFL Rumors: Teams Are Monitoring a Trade With the Saints for Alvin Kamara
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that teams are monitoring Kamara’s status as a potential trade target. The Seahawks have Zach Charbonnet, but the running back is recovering from a season-ending ACL injury.
“With the Saints reaching agreement today with RB Travis Etienne, there now are questions around the league about whether RB Alvin Kamara will be moving on from New Orleans and whether the Saints would be willing trade him,” Schefter detailed in a March 9, message on X. “Teams are tracking and wondering about it.”
Whether it is a trade for Kamara or signing a veteran, the Seahawks would be wise to make another move to have insurance behind Charbonnet. Seattle could also look to snag one of the top available running back prospects in the upcoming NFL draft.
