The strong offseason for the San Francisco 49ers continued on Friday morning.
Reports indicated the 49ers re-upped on a two-year deal with 2025 Pro Bowl linebacker Luke Gifford. Gifford, 30, made the Pro Bowl as a Special Teams dynamo this past season.
The move won’t exactly draw a ton of attention across the NFL. However, in terms of building a Championship-level squad, these are the types of players every team needs to win at the highest level.

Gifford notched 35 tackles last season on nine starts. With Fred Warner expected to be back from injury, coupled with the recent move to bring Dre Greenlaw back into the fold, the 49ers depth at the linebacker spot should immediately be better with Gifford reverting back to more of a reserve.
The Nebraska native offers terrific value and versatility across the board. He led the team last year in special teams tackles while also providing credible play as a part-time starter.
Barring injury, Gifford can now focus much of his attention to the third phase of the game for Kyle Shanahan’s team. There’s a world where he’s even more productive in this capacity than he was this past season.

San Francisco’s front office did a terrific job thus far. Along with Gifford, the team re-signed key contributors such as Eddy Piñeiro, Jake Tonges, and Garrett Wallow.
Additionally, including the addition of Greenlaw, San Francisco has acquired multiple veterans (Mike Evans, Nate Hobbs, Brett Toth, Vederian Lowe, Osa Odighizuwa) capable of helping this team contend for a Super Bowl appearance in 2026.
