Former Nebraska linebacker Luke Gifford, who earned Pro Bowl honors this season for his work on special teams with the San Francisco 49ers, resigned with the team on a two-year deal according to NFL reporter Tom Pelissero.
Gifford's deal will pay him $5.3 million over two years and reflects the value in Gifford who has been a standout on special teams his entire pro career, while seeing more action on defense in recent seasons.
The 30-year-old Gifford signed with the Dallas Cowboys out of Nebraska as an undrafted free agent in 2019. During his seven seasons in the league, Gifford has spent time with Dallas, Tennessee and San Francisco.
Last season, Gifford appeared in 17 games, making 22 tackles for the 49ers. Gifford has appeared in 90 games in his NFL career, making 91 career tackles. His best year came in 2024 with Tennessee when he played in 16 games and made 40 tackles, while also nabbing one interception.
Gifford is the second former Husker in recent days to sign a deal, joining former NU tight end Jack Stoll, who signed a one-year contract with Cleveland earlier this week.
