The Minnesota Timberwolves could be without their most important offensive weapon Friday night.
Minnesota listed All-Star guard Anthony Edwards as questionable with right knee soreness ahead of its matchup against the Golden State Warriors, raising concern as the Timberwolves try to halt a difficult stretch of games during a critical point in the Western Conference playoff race.
Reserve wing Ayo Dosunmu also appeared on the injury report as questionable with a right thumb sprain.
Edwards’ status looms especially large for Minnesota, which has leaned heavily on its franchise star during a demanding portion of the schedule.
Anthony Edwards Appears on Timberwolves Injury Report
The injury designation comes just two days after Edwards delivered another dominant scoring performance.
The 24-year-old guard erupted for 36 points on 11-of-17 shooting, adding five assists, two rebounds and one steal in 35 minutes during Wednesday’s 153–128 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers.
Despite the offensive explosion, Edwards placed the responsibility for the defeat squarely on himself.
“I just gotta be better,” Edwards said after the loss. “Whoever I’m guarding, trying to set the tone to start the game. I’ve just got to be better. Everything is about me.”
The performance marked Edwards’ 18th game with at least 35 points this season, underscoring his role as the engine of Minnesota’s offense.
It also represented a strong bounce-back effort after Edwards struggled in the Timberwolves’ previous game against the Los Angeles Lakers, when he finished with 14 points on 2-of-15 shooting.
Over his last eight games, Edwards has been one of the league’s most productive scorers, averaging 29.1 points, 3.4 rebounds and 3.9 assists while topping the 30-point mark five times.
Timberwolves Facing Brutal Stretch of Schedule
Edwards’ health comes into focus as Minnesota navigates one of the most challenging portions of its season.
The Timberwolves have yet to win during their current brutal stretch, including a difficult four-game road swing through Los Angeles that resulted in a pair of lopsided losses.
One night after being overwhelmed by Luka Dončić and the Los Angeles Lakers, Minnesota again struggled to match the intensity of its opponent against the Clippers.
Los Angeles, led by Kawhi Leonard, surged early and never relented. The Clippers — who have surged since a rough 6–21 start to the season — overwhelmed Minnesota on both ends of the floor as the Timberwolves appeared unprepared for the defensive pressure and offensive pace.
Now Minnesota must regroup quickly.
Following Friday’s game against Golden State, the Timberwolves will face the Western Conference-leading Oklahoma City Thunder on Sunday in another road test.
The schedule doesn’t ease up after that.
Minnesota then returns home to face the Phoenix Suns, who sit just one game behind them in the standings, on Tuesday.
All five games in this current stretch are against teams currently positioned in the Western Conference playoff picture, making every result critical.
Warriors Await as Timberwolves Monitor Edwards
If Edwards is unable to play, Minnesota could face an uphill battle against Golden State.
While the Warriors have dropped three straight games, they have remained competitive despite playing without franchise superstar Stephen Curry, who has been sidelined with injury.
Golden State has fought to the final possession in each of those recent losses, demonstrating the resilience of a roster still built around experienced veterans and a high-paced offense.
For Minnesota, Edwards’ availability could determine whether the Timberwolves can finally break through during this difficult stretch.
Without him, the offensive burden would likely shift to Minnesota’s supporting cast, which has struggled to generate consistent scoring when Edwards is not leading the attack.
The Timberwolves will likely evaluate Edwards’ knee soreness closer to tipoff before making a final decision on his status.
