The Dolphins signed an offensive lineman in free agency
For the first time since 2015, the Miami Dolphins have a new general manager. For Miami, that means having a new team-building philosophy. General manager Jon-Eric Sullivan, who was brought over from the Green Bay Packers organization, stated that he wants to utilize a draft-and-develop method to complement free agents.
Regarding free agency,Sullivan had previously said,“We will be very intentional and deliberate how we move about that. We will definitely utilize it when we get into a healthy cap situation and we can. But we’ll be disciplined, we’ll be intentional, and we will chase difference makers that add value to the field immediately but also add value to our locker room in terms of the kind of culture that we want to build.”
Through the first week of free agency, the Dolphins have kept to that philosophy. Their only major multi-year signing has been quarterback Malik Willis, who signed a three-year, $67 million contract with Miami. However, Sullivan is familiar with him and knows the value he can provide as he spent the past two seasons with Willis in Green Bay.
Now, the Dolphins have made another under-the-radar addition that could help add value to the field.
Miami Dolphins Sign Offensive Lineman
Miami Herald writer Barry Jackson reported that the Miami Dolphins had signed offensive lineman Jamaree Salyer. Salyer has appeared in 64 games in his NFL career and has started 40 games. He was previously drafted in the sixth round of the 2022 NFL Draft by the Los Angeles Chargers, where he spent the first four seasons of his career after his four-year, $3.8 million rookie contract.
Regarding the signing, Sports Illustrated’s Dante Collinelli said, “When looking for potential offensive line help on the open market, it’s always nice when you can get a player with legitimate experience. Salyer has 40 career starts, and he’s played a decent amount of tackle and guard in that span.”
In terms of how he fits in with the Dolphins, Collinelli added, “Right now, you can pencil in Salyer as the team’s starting right guard. Miami’s offensive line is LT Patrick Paul, LG Jonah Savaiinaea, C Aaron Brewer, RG Jamaree Salyer, and RT Austin Jackson. That group will be responsible for protecting new QB Malik Willis.”

As things stand, Miami’s tackle situation appears to be set with Patrick Paul and Austin Jackson. However, the guard position seems to be up in the air. Salyer has experience at that position, as he played 157 snaps at right guard last season. Additionally, he was the Chargers’ primary right guard during the 2023 season.
Regarding his performance last season, Pro Football Focus’ Ryan Smith posted on X, “Salyer was the Chargers’ second best pass blocking OL last year behind Joe Alt at 68.8
There were 7 OL on the team who had at least 300 pass blocking snaps and he was the only one above 61.0 with three others below 48.0
***60.0 is average for reference.”
The Dolphins have a need at right guard, as last season’s primary starterCole Strange signed a two-year, $13 million contract with the Los Angeles Chargers.
