Patriots' potential trade package for A.J. Brown revealed, but a deal isn't close

Trade rumors regarding Philadelphia Eagles standout wide receiver A.J. Brown and the New England Patriots aren’t going anywhere anytime soon.

The Patriots desperately need a star wideout like Brown to strengthen their relatively mediocre receiving core, and Brown appears unhappy with his current role in the Eagles’ offense.

Simply put, it’s a match made in heaven, and according to Boston Sports Journal’s Mike Girardi, New England may not have to surrender a first-round pick in a potential blockbuster trade for the three-time Pro Bowler.

“Who knows if this is a game of telephone,” Giradi said Thursday. “But talking to people who work in the league, they all believe A.J. Brown will end up in New England. This probably takes a little while. You’ve got the runway here. ... But to me, now that you have (Romeo Doubs)? “

“It’s less of an ‘Oh, you’ve got to give us a (first-round pick) and (second-round pick).’ (The Patriots say), ‘No, we have a good player who we think can be a No. 1. How about a (second-round pick) and (fourth-round pick)? I think this is eventually going to get done.”

Not only does Giardi believe the Patriots and Eagles will complete a deal centered on Brown, but the notable NFL insider is also under the impression that a second and fourth-round pick could get the job done.

The bad news, though, is that The Athletic's Dianna Russini reported that while the Patriots are among the teams still interested in Brown, the Eagles aren't interested in trading the 28-year-old at this time.

A deal could still materialize down the line, but it just won't occur as soon as many were expecting.
