There are still some teams out there that could use a boost on the interior of their defensive line, a list that includes the Detroit Lions, Minnesota Vikings, Denver Broncos and Las Vegas Raiders.
But if they were hoping to get that big boost from the New York Giants via trade, they shouldn't any longer.
That's because, according to SNY's Connor Hughes, the Giants have no plans to trade star defensive lineman Dexter Lawrence.
Hughes adds that the Giants never put Lawrence on the trade block, but he did think the three-time Pro Bowler at least had a chance to be traded.
But after defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson made an impassioned plea to keep Lawrence, Hughes thinks a trade is completely off the table.
"We’ll see on an extension, but I’d be floored if there’s a trade," he said. "While the Giants never shopped Lawrence, moving him wasn’t an unfathomable concept earlier this offseason. From my understanding, defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson stood on the table to keep him before, during, and after he was named coordinator."
"If there was any consideration of trading Lawrence — and everything I’ve heard is that it wasn’t given serious thought — it ended then," Hughes added.
It never made any sense to trade Lawrence in the first place.
Sure, he had a down year in 2025, but it was also a disastrous year for the team overall thanks to the utter dysfunction from top to bottom.
Lawrence should be reinvigorated with a new and legit head coach in place in John Harbaugh and that could lead to the Clemson product returning to his elite form.
Plus, there was no way Harbaugh was going to kneecap his defense in the first year of his tenure in New York.
