Chelsea told new offer for Tottenham star who completed player of the season clean sweep, will…

Tottenham rebuffed enquiries from Chelsea and Aston Villa for Lucas Bergvall in the winter transfer window.

Tottenham Hotspur are undoubtedly enduring their worst-ever season in the Premier League. The position that club finds itself in has forced many players to consider their futures heading into the summer.

Among the players in high demand is Cristian Romero. The Tottenham skipper was heavily linked with a move to Atletico Madrid last year, but after guiding the club to Europa League success, he decided to stay and pen a new contract. However, after a campaign full of ups and downs, Romero wants to leave, and Atletico Madrid have revived their interest in the defender.

Romero’s centre-back partner, Micky van de Ven, is also attracting interest from La Liga, whereas Aston Villa are eyeing a bargain summer deal for James Maddison. Another Tottenham player whose future has become uncertain is Lucas Bergvall.

Lucas Bergvall was one of the rare standouts in another torrid Spurs campaign before his injury, netting one goal and supplying four assists in 26 appearances. The young midfielder was the subject of enquiries from both Chelsea and Aston Villa in the winter transfer window, but both saw their advances rebuffed.

Chelsea told new offer for Lucas Bergvall will be accepted

Bergvall, who was voted Players’ Player of the Year following a stellar debut campaign, is currently sidelined following an ankle surgery. Spurs have missed the Swedish international’s industry, running power, dynamism and movement in the middle of the park.

As things stand, Tottenham could face relegation if results fail to improve in the coming months. This situation may also force the club into selling some of their star players if circumstances worsen. Now, according to ex-scout Mick Brown, Tottenham could cash in on Bergvall if Chelsea comes in with a suitable offer in the summer.

“A lot of clubs are keeping an eye on Tottenham,” Mick Brown exclusively told Football Insider.

“There are a lot of players there who could make a move, and Lucas Bergvall is one of those. A lot of clubs could do with a player like him.

“Tottenham beat a few clubs to bring him in in the first place, so if he’s going to move on, I expect you’ll have those same clubs having a look at him.

“It’s going to be difficult for Spurs even if they don’t get relegated because if these top clubs come calling, the players are going to want to move on.

“Chelsea and Aston Villa asked about Bergvall before and that interest isn’t going to have faded, so I’m sure they’ll be keeping an eye on things.

“If Chelsea come in with a new offer for him, there’s a good chance they’ll have to let him go.”

Tottenham would find it difficult to keep hold of Bergvall if they go down

The key decision-makers within the N17 corridors view Bergvall as one of the top talents in Europe and made their stance clear in the winter transfer window that he is not for sale. Having quickly become a key player for the North Londoners, it is no surprise that the young Swede is now coveted by some top clubs across Europe.

However, the Lilywhites risk losing the 20-year-old if they suffer relegation. It would be an uphill task to persuade Bergvall to stay at White Hart Lane and remain part of their project if the unthinkable happens. The Stockholm-born midfielder is exactly the kind of asset clubs rebuild around, but chances of him heading for greener pastures would significantly increase if Tottenham doesn’t remain a Premier League entity by the end of the season.

And that could give bitter rivals like Chelsea encouragement to test our resolve over the highly rated Bergvall.
