Shocking Details Emerge After Ravens QB Lamar Jackson’s Restructured Contract

The 2025 season wasn’t Lamar Jackson’s best shot. He played just 13 games, finishing with 2,549 passing yards and 21 touchdowns, which is way below his MVP-caliber output.

So, the Ravens finished with a disappointing 8-9 record after their franchise quarterback failed to meet expectations. Yet despite the down year, Baltimore hasn’t wavered on its commitment to him. If anything, it’s doubling down.

Entering the 2026 offseason, the front office restructured his contract to clear immediate cap space. While this gives the team room to move now, it creates a much larger financial burden for the coming years. However, we didn’t have all the details of this restructured contract until now.

Ravens restructure Lamar Jackson’s deal with huge signing bonus

Jackson’s original 2026 cap hit of $74.5 million was the second-highest in the NFL, taking up nearly a quarter of Baltimore’s budget. To gain flexibility for free agency, the Ravens triggered an automatic restructure clause.

By converting his salary into a $49.95 million signing bonus, they dropped his 2026 cap number to $34.54 million. This move freed upnearly $40 million in immediate space. Jackson still takes home $52 million in cash this year. And it is said to be a technical financial step to manage the team’s limit.

$1.3M base salary

$750K workout bonus

The Ravens also added a void year. So Jackson still makes $52M this year, but his cap number drops by $39.96M in 2026 — and rises to $84.49M in 2027.

General Manager Eric DeCosta confirmed the Ravens added a 2030 “void year” to Jackson’s contract. These aren’t extra years of play; they are accounting tools used to spread out a signing bonus and lower the immediate cap hit.

The tradeoff is a massive spike later. Jackson’s 2027 cap hit will jump to $84.49 million, the third-highest in the league. This “win-now” approach aligns with recent moves by Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen, who prioritize current flexibility over future debt.

Baltimore spent that new space immediately. After a trade for Maxx Crosby was cancelled, they signed edge rusher Trey Hendrickson to a four-year, $112 million contract.

Since Jackson is only signed through 2027 and has a “no-tag” clause, he could become a free agent in 2028. Without a new deal, the team can’t add more void years to spread out his costs. This makes an extension necessary for the Ravens to manage their budget.

For now, he enters 2026 under new head coachJesse Minter and offensive coordinator Declan Doyle. While he has led Baltimore to five postseason appearances, the front office has essentially bet the team’s financial future on him. Now, he needs to perform on the field to justify that investment.
