Simone Biles is one of the best gymnasts the world has ever seen. She has become one of the most famous figures in sports, which makes her husband Jonathan Owens one of the most interesting players to watch in the NFL.

Owens may not be a star, but he has built a solid career for himself as a role player on defense and special teams. On Friday, he signed a new deal with the Indianapolis Colts.

According to a report from ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, Owens has agreed to a one-year contract with the Colts.

Fans immediately started taking to social media and Biles’ name become a trending topic. Indianapolis fans are clearly excited to welcome her to town.

Colts, NFL Fans Are Excited to Have Simone Biles in Indianapolis

In the comments section after the NFL’s official X account posted the news about Owens signing with the Colts, fans rushed to make their voices heard. Plenty of fans tweeted about Biles rather than Owens.

“Simone Biles is officially moving to Indy! Oh, and Jonathan Owens is coming too. Great depth signing for the Colts!” one fan wrote.

Another chimed in, “I read this as Simone Biles is now a Colts fan.”

“Simone Biles is gonna be in Indy?!? Woohooooooo,” a third comment read.

Another fan commented, “Dang now Simone needs custom fits for another team.”

“Just put: Simone Biles Husband,” a fifth fan said.

Needless to say, Biles has become a very popular name in the NFL. She’ll now be rooting for the Colts as her husband plays out the 2026 season in Indianapolis.

What Will Jonathan Owens Bring to the Colts on the Field?

Outside of bringing a famous Olympian to the city, Owens will have a chance to be a valuable role player for the Colts.

Indianapolis recently lost two safeties. Both Nick Cross and Rodney Thomas II left town for different teams in NFL free agency. Owens will have a chance to carve out a role on defense.

He has also played well on special teams throughout his career.

Last season with the Chicago Bears, the 30-year-old safety played in all 17 games. He recorded 19 total tackles. Back in 2024 with the Bears, he ended up with 49 tackles, a forced fumble, two fumble recoveries, an interception, and two defended passes.

As a starter with the Green Bay Packers back in 2023, Owens totaled 84 tackles, a sack, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, and three defended passes in 17 games.

Clearly, the Colts are not signing him to be a star for their defense. He’ll be a role player who can step in if his number is called. On special teams, he’ll have a shot at earning consistent playing time and being a factor in Indianapolis.
