Stefon Diggs #8 of the New England Patriots looks on during a game against the Las Vegas Raiders.

The Kansas City Chiefs have some question marks in their wide receiving corps for the coming season, but may have just gotten one of their answers.

The team faces an uncertain future regarding Rashee Rice, the talented wide receiver who faced a six-game suspension for off-the-field troubles in 2025 and could face another suspension in the coming season.

Chiefs Could Make Run at Super Bowl Receiver

One insider believes the Chiefs can find help with another controversial wide receiver, one who is facing a potential punishment of his own.

Analyst Mike Moraitis of The Sporting News named the Chiefs among the three teams that could make a run at veteran wide receiver Stefon Diggs after he was cut loose by the New England Patriots.

Moraitis suggested that Diggs will want to land with another contender, naming the Buffalo Bills and Washington Commanders.

“The Chiefs are another team that needs to add a wide receiver,” Moraitis wrote. “Their group is currently headlined by Rashee Rice, who is facing more legal trouble, and Xavier Worthy, who is coming off a disappointing season and is considered unproven.”

Diggs proved this season that he fully recovered from the knee injury that ended his 2024 season with the Houston Texans, bouncing back to become a top target for quarterback Drake Maye in New England. He topped 1,000 yards, helping lead the team to an AFC East title and trip to the Super Bowl.

Stefon Diggs Surrounded By Uncertainty

While Rice faces an uncertain future and potential suspension after being accused of domestic assault, Diggs too has a cloud of legal uncertainty over his head. He was hit with felony charges related to an alleged attack on a former personal chef, facing an arraignment after the Patriots lost the Super Bowl.

The Patriots have left the door open for Diggs to potential return on a new contract after cutting cap space with his release.

“I wouldn’t say the door’s closed,” said Patriots executive vice president of player personnel Eliot Wolf said Thursday. “I mean, again, we’re gonna look through every way we possibly can to help improve the team.”

Wolf added that the team and Diggs separated on good terms.

“We talked about a variety of options,” he said. “Ultimately, we decided to move forward, and we wish him nothing but the best. As we told him when we spoke to him, he was super classy. As we told him, any way we can help out we will.”

The Chiefs have already gotten more clarity on another top pass-catcher for next season. Tight end Travis Kelce announced that he was not going to retire, instead signing a one-year contract to return to Kansas City.

It remains unclear whether he will have Patrick Mahomes to throw to him at the start of the season, however. The Chiefs quarterback is still undergoing rehab for a torn ACL and LCL. While Mahomes has expressed confidence that he will recover in time to start the season, the team won’t have clarity until he gets closer to the fall.
