Your latest dose of Premier League transfer rumours - including Chelsea, Man United, Nottingham Forest and more...
This latest daily round-up of transfer rumours emerging around the Premier League begins at Stamford Bridge, where one of Liam Rosenior’s most important players is reportedly considering his future away from west London…
According to reports by Caught Offside relaying information from Spain, Enzo Fernandez is considering leaving Chelsea at the end of the season as he seeks more ‘immediate’ trophy success elsewhere.
This is despite, of course, winning both the Conference League and the Club World Cup last season, but the 25-year-old is believed to want to play for a club regularly competing for league titles and the Champions League. This was evidenced by his clear frustration towards team-mate Filip Jorgensen after the young goalkeeper made a howler in Chelsea’s 5-2 defeat at PSG in midweek.
While Caught Offside’s report does not confirm whether the Argentine’s desire to leave Chelsea is due to concrete transfer interest from elsewhere, they do note that Real Madrid have been linked in the past and could provide Fernandez with the ‘platform’ he desires, while he remains ‘on their radar’.
The 3AM verdict: Links between Fernandez and an exit, particularly to Real Madrid, are not new and are probably not impossible from coming true, even if unlikely at present. But Chelsea are still building their project under BlueCo and particularly under new boss Rosenior and so to allow their vice-captain to leave would be shooting themselves in the foot before they have even reached their goal.
If there was one place Fernandez could demand to move to, though, it is probably the Bernabeu. The 25-year-old is of course a native Spanish speaker and might find himself more at home in the Spanish capital, while Real Madrid is a clear step up on almost anywhere else. The only issue, however, is the price tag – Chelsea spent £106m on Fernandez and would undoubtedly demand a profit on a player whose contract runs until 2032. We would need further corroboration in order to believe that Real are willing to spend that kind of money in order to secure his signature.
Forest star targeted by Man Utd and Real Madrid
Meanwhile, up in the North-West at Manchester United, the Red Devils might have major competition for a top defensive target.
As per reports by journalist Pete Hall for The i Paper, Nottingham Forest centre-back Murillo is a summer target for the Red Devils as they draw up a list of targets in the position amidst an injury crisis in the centre of defence. He has previously been touted as a potential replacement for Harry Maguire and with the England man’s future still uncertain, a summer move could yet become a reality.
The player is not believed to be pushing for an exit after signing new terms until 2029 just last year, but relegation for Forest could force the club’s hand – as could a growing list of potential suitors. Real Madrid are touted as amongst those interested in swooping for the 23-year-old Brazilian, while Liverpool and Chelsea are also cited as holding an interest.
The 3AM verdict: Murillo has an impressive amount of Premier League experienceat his young age,and it is somewhat surprising that he is still at Forest after his outstanding campaign last term. It would not be a shock at all if he moves on this summer, especially if the club are relegated to the Championship.
Caught Offsidecite a £70m price tag for the Brazilian, which appears valid for his experience and potential, but he may move on for less if the club are relegated. A move to United makes sense and we can certainly imagine Murillo lighting up Old Trafford with his blend of goal-line clearances and mazy dribbles out of defence. Chelsea and Liverpool might both be in the market for new centre-backs this summer too, but a move to Real Madrid appears slightly far-fetched at present. We will see what happens this summer.
