Arsenal are exploring a potential summer move for Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka, with reports claiming the German international could arrive at the Emirates Stadium on a free transfer.
According to multiple reports citing information from TEAMtalk, ARSENAL are preparing a formal approach for the experienced midfielder, whose contract in Munich is set to expire at the end of the season.
The 31-year-old is expected to leave Bayern after a long and successful spell in Germany, creating one of the most attractive free-agent opportunities of the upcoming transfer window. Arsenal are understood to have monitored his situation for months and now appear ready to accelerate their interest as the summer approaches.
A key figure behind the potential deal is Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta, who is reportedly personally involved in negotiations and preparing to submit an official contract proposal.
Goretzka has been a major presence for Bayern since joining from Schalke in 2018, winning multiple Bundesliga titles and playing a key role in the club’s domestic dominance. During his time in Bavaria he has contributed 48 goals and 49 assists in nearly 300 appearances, underlining his impact from midfield.
For ARSENAL, the attraction is clear. Mikel Arteta is believed to want another powerful central midfielder capable of contributing both defensively and offensively, and Goretzka’s profile fits the system the Spaniard has built at the Emirates.
Reports also suggest Arsenal previously made contact during the January transfer window but the player preferred to remain in Munich until the end of the campaign. With his contract now nearing its conclusion, a summer switch appears significantly more realistic.
The move could also appeal to Goretzka himself. Sources close to the player have indicated he is keen on a Premier League challenge, and Arsenal are viewed as one of the most attractive destinations due to their upward trajectory under Arteta and regular participation in the Champions League.
Competition for the midfielder’s signature may still emerge, however. Several Premier League and European clubs are believed to have held discussions with his representatives as they explore the possibility of signing a high-level player without paying a transfer fee.
