Chelsea XI vs Newcastle: Predicted lineup, confirmed team news, injury latest for Premier League today

Dilemma: Liam Rosenior will choose between Filip Jorgensen and Robert Sanchez in goal against Newcastle

Chelsea Football Newsletter

Liam Rosenior has a major selection decision to make as Chelsea face a tricky test against Newcastle.

Filip Jorgensen appears to have usurped Robert Sanchez as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper, starting key recent games against Aston Villa and Paris Saint-Germain.

But Jorgensen made key errors in Wednesday’s 5-2 defeat by PSG in the Champions League that led many to question the decision and if Rosenior will quickly reinstate Sanchez for the visit of Newcastle to Stamford Bridge.

Yet in his pre-match press conference on Friday, the Chelsea boss said that Jorgensen is “for sure” ready to start against the Magpies.

Jamie Gittens has been back in training this week following a hamstring injury and could return for the Blues on Saturday, though Pedro Neto is now suspended after being handed an extra one-match ban and fined £70,000 by the Football Association (FA) following his reaction to being sent off against Arsenal.

That decision came just a day after UEFA opened disciplinary proceedings against Neto for pushing a ball boy during the latter stages of the loss to PSG, which could yet result in another one-game ban in Europe.

Meanwhile, Rosenior said that Chelsea need to be “careful” with Estevao’s hamstring injury to avoid a reoccurrence and he is set to miss out again this weekend.

Back training with the Chelsea first team is Levi Colwill, who has not played a minute this term after suffering a serious knee injury on the first day of pre-season training in the summer.

Like Estevao, he has been working through a specialised individual programme at Cobham and this game will come too early for his return.

Predicted Chelsea XI (4-2-3-1): Jorgensen; James, Fofana, Chalobah, Cucurella; Santos, Caicedo; Palmer, Fernandez, Garnacho; Joao Pedro

Injured: Estevao, Colwill

Suspended: Neto
