The Washington Commanders have finally started making moves at wide receiver in recent days, but they still need to land an adequate No. 2.
Not only have the Commanders re-signed Treylon Burks, they have also added Van Jefferson and Dyami Brown in free agency. The problem is that all three of those players are depth pieces and nothing more.
It's likely the Commanders will eventually sign Brandon Aiyuk, but there's no telling when the San Francisco 49ers will release him. Even if the Commanders land Aiyuk, he's hardly dependable after not having played a snap since 2024.
With that in mind, Gia Nguyen of SportsCasting.com predicts the Commanders will sign recently released former New England Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs.
Jayden Daniels is a young franchise quarterback who needs a reliable veteran receiver who can operate in the slot and on the outside, opposite Terry McLaurin. Diggs grew up in Maryland, which makes this an intriguing landing spot.
Prediction: Washington Commanders
The Patriots' reason for cutting Diggs was all about the money. The veteran wideout was set to have a huge cap hit in 2026, so the Patriots tried to restructure his $63 million deal.
After the two sides couldn't come to an agreement, New England was forced to release him.
While Diggs is long in the tooth at 32 years old, he showed he's still got something left in the tank last season after tallying 1,000 yards.
If he can even come close to reaching that mark with the Commanders in 2026, Washington would have a formidable one-two punch when you include Terry McLaurin, which would provide a huge boost to Jayden Daniels.
