Gerard Deulofeu reacts as Everton post clip of his 2013 equaliser against Arsenal

Gerard Deulofeu remains in contact with Everton despite leaving Merseyside in 2017.

The Spaniard spoke to the BBC as recently as February about his love for Everton and how grateful he was to play for the Toffees.

Now, after Everton posted a video of his stunning goal at the Emirates Stadium in 2013 ahead of the Premier League clash against Arsenal on Saturday evening, Deulofeu has sent a new message with a two-word response.

Gerard Deulofeu says he misses Everton after Instagram post

That 84th-minute equaliser from the Spain international back in December 2013, which came just four minutes after Mesut Ozil handed Arsenal the lead, denied the Gunners the chance to move seven points clear at the top of the Premier League.

Coincidentally, Arsenal currently hold a seven-point lead at the top, so if Everton can take points off the Gunners again, history would repeat itself.

It was a fine strike from Deulofeu back in the winter of 2013, dropping a shoulder not once but twice before rifling a powerful shot beyond Wojciech Szczesny, and after Everton reminisced over the moment, he posted “MISS YOU” in response.

Fans will have fond memories of that era under Roberto Martinez, as the side on the day of this 1-1 draw contained the likes of Romelu Lukaku, Kevin Mirallas, Steven Pienaar, James McCarthy, Gareth Barry and Seamus Coleman, a solid spine complemented by mercurial talents like Deulofeu who helped Everton finish fifth in that 2013/14 campaign.

The 31-year-old is currently working hard to rebuild his career after some horrendous injury issues at Udinese, so hopefully the message from Everton helped to lift his spirits a bit.

Deulofeu also said he misses Everton back in November when speaking to the club’s media team, so he clearly remains quite fond of the Toffees – who he made 75 appearances for across two separate stints.
