How Seahawks roster is stacking up for 2026 | Analysis

The frenzy of the NFL’s free agent signing period has calmed down.

NFL teams spent a record $5.83 billion combined during the first four days of the free agent negotiating and signing period, according to ESPN.

The Seahawks spent just over $86 million of that amount led by the $51 million to retain receiver Rashid Shaheed.

The Seahawks figure to do some more big spending at some point over the next year — if not before next season — to extend receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba and cornerback Devon Witherspoon.

There will be more short-term contract moves made over the next few weeks as free agency hits its next few phases.

And the Seahawks have four picks in the draft next month, though sure to try to add some more.

But with free agency hitting a lull after the busy first few days makes it a good time to recap how the roster looks:

Quarterback

Players on roster: Sam Darnold, Drew Lock, Jalen Milroe.

Comment: There figures to be no drama at this spot this year with all three players under contract and a clear pecking order. This will be a big offseason for Milroe to show some improvement in his second season and prove that he can be a viable backup and someday a starter.

Running back

Players on roster: Zach Charbonnet, George Holani, Kenny McIntosh, Cam Akers, Velus Jones Jr., Jacardia Wright, Emanuel Wilson; fullbacks Robbie Ouzts and Brady Russell.

Comment: The Seahawks lost Kenneth Walker III but added Wilson, a backup the last two years with the Packers. If the season started today, the Seahawks would probably have Holani and Wilson as their top two running backs with the rest vying for another roster spot and Charbonnet beginning the season on injured reserve and potentially not back until late October or November.

GM John Schneider said Thursday on Sports Radio 710 the team will continue to explore options, and drafting a running back makes a lot of sense.

Re-signing Russell to a two-year deal also solidifies the fullback spot, which emerged again as a key position in the Seahawks offense last year, which likely won’t change under new OC Brian Fleury.

Tight end

Players on roster: AJ Barner, Elijah Arroyo, Eric Saubert, Nick Kallerup.

Comment: Here’s another spot where there figures to be no drama as the top four from last year return, likely set to play the same roles as in 2025. They will need to sign a few to fill out the roster for training camp and practice squad depth.

Receiver

Players on roster: Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Cooper Kupp, Rashid Shaheed, Tory Horton, Jake Bobo, Ricky White III, Tyrone Broden, Montorie Foster Jr.,

Comment: Re-signing Shaheed and tendering Bobo as a restricted free agent may have taken care of the major moves at this spot. They could still re-sign free agent Cody White and will surely add a few more at this position for training camp depth.

Offensive line

Players on roster: Charles Cross, Grey Zabel, Jalen Sundell, Anthony Bradford, Abraham Lucas, Josh Jones, Christian Haynes, Mason Richman, Bryce Cabeldue, Olu Oluwatimi, Amari Kight, Logan Brown, Federico Maranges.

Comment: Here’s yet another spot where there may not be much drama. Re-signing Jones means the Seahawks returns every O-lineman who saw action last season. The jostling for backup spots among some of the younger players such as Haynes, Cabledue and Richman will make for good training camp fodder.

Interior offensive line

Players on roster: Jarran Reed, Leonard Williams, Byron Murphy II, Brandon Pili, Rylie Mills, Mike Morris, J.R. Singleton, Bubba Thomas.

Comment: Everybody of note returns at this spot. Mills showed in the Super Bowl that he could play a significant role in 2026 and act as an addition to the line now that he is recovered from his knee injury.

Edge rushers

Players on roster: Uchenna Nwosu, Derick Hall, Connor O’Toole, Jared Ivey, Jamie Sheriff.

Comment: The one big loss here is Boye Mafe. They return Nwosu, Hall and Lawrence as edge rushers and also got long looks at O’Toole and Ivey in practice last year and is counting on one or both to make a big leap to become a contributor this season. There’s been some speculation that Lawrence could retire. But the Seahawks’ free agency moves didn’t indicate any concern on that front.

It’s projected as a good year for edge rushers in the draft and adding one would make a lot of sense.

Linebacker

Players on roster: Ernest Jones IV, Drake Thomas, Tyrice Knight, Patrick O’Connell, Ja’Markis Weston, Chris Paul Jr.

Comment: The top four inside linebackers all return with the re-signing of Thomas to a two-year deal. Weston was signed to the practice squad in December after seeing action in three games with the Jets and may be an intriguing player to watch in camp. It will also be fun to watch the progress of Paul, a fifth-round pick of the Rams a year ago who the Seahawks signed in late August.

Safety

Players on roster: Julian Love, Ty Okada, Nick Emmanwori, A.J. Finley, D’Anthony Bell, Maxen Hook, Rodney Thomas II.

Comment: The Seahawks lost Coby Bryant but will likely slide Okada into his spot as a full-time starter. The Seahawks added Thomas, re-signed Finley and brought back Bell — who was with the Seahawks most of the season but waived and claimed by Carolina and not on the roster for the postseason — to flesh out the depth at this spot. Another low-cost veteran addition or draft pick would make sense.

Cornerback

Players on roster: Devon Witherspoon, Josh Jobe, Nehemiah Pritchett.

Comment: The Seahawks re-signed Jobe to assure it had their top two CBs back in 2026, but lost Riq Woolen and didn’t re-sign veteran Shaquill Griffin, who ended the season on the practice squad after starting one game last season when injuries hit. The Seahawks will obviously need to add a few players at this spot through free agent signees and maybe the draft.

Special teams

Players on roster: Kicker Jason Myers, punter Michael Dickson, snapper Chris Stoll.

Comment: It’s steady as ever with the specialists. The Seahawks re-signed Stoll to a two-year contract and will have their kicking batter intact for a fourth straight season in 2026.
