On March 13, the Pittsburgh Steelers officially announced that they acquired Michael Pittman Jr. in a trade with the Indianapolis Colts. Moreover, the Steelers also revealed that they signed the player to a new three-year contract.
Under the terms of the trade, Pittsburgh receives Pittman along with a seventh-round pick, 230th overall, while the Colts receive a sixth-round pick, 214th overall.
With the trade now official, Pittman appeared on the March 13 edition of the “Pat McAfee Show,” and noted his excitement to be playing for the Steelers next season.
“I just feel like my style of football fits in here,” Pittman said. “That smash-mouth football and everything. I feel like that’s the way that I play football and that I’m going to fit in well here. So I’m excited about it, fired up. I talked to Coach Mike, and everything that he has planned for me just sounds great. So I’m stinking fired up to be here.”
Pittman spent the past six seasons with the Colts, appearing in 95 games and starting 86. During that time, he totaled 485 receptions for 5,254 yards, averaging 10.8 yards per catch with 25 touchdowns.
Last season, he played in 17 games, starting 16, and recorded 80 catches for 784 yards with a career-high seven touchdowns.
In Week 5 against the Las Vegas Raiders, Pittman surpassed Dallas Clark’s 427 receptions to move into fourth on the Colts’ all-time list. He also overtook T.Y. Hilton for the second-most receptions by a Colts player in their first six seasons.
While he is eager to begin his tenure with Pittsburgh, Pittman acknowledged that leaving Indianapolis was difficult.
“I’ve loved my time in Indy so much,” Pittman added. “I mean, everybody there — it’s so hard to leave such a special place, and everybody there that made it so great. So shout‑out to the training room, shout‑out to the equipment room, and obviously all of my teammates and staff too.”
