U18 Premier League

Ipswich Town 1 (Compton 3) Arsenal 0

Arsenal U18s fell to their third defeat in succession as they were beaten 1-0 away by Ipswich Town today.

The young Gunners were without Callan Hamill, who is on international duty, while schoolboy Mishel Nduka came into the side in place of Kyran Thompson.

Saurap Sampang started, with Angelinou Pedro dropping to the bench and captain Teshaun Murisa moving into defence.

First year scholar Bowen Phillips was named amongst the substitutes as he made his return to action.

Subs: Thompson (for Sampang, 61), B. Phillips (for Emerson Nwaneri, 61), Pedro (for Owusu-Gyasi, 61), Purdy (for Nduka, 83). Not used: C. Phillips.

It was a disappointing start for Arsenal as Ipswich took the lead through Matthew Compton after just three minutes.

Arsenal went into the break behind and there was a triple substitution just after the hour mark as Thompson, Bowen Phillips and Pedro all came on.

Schoolboy Charlie Purdy later replaced Nduka in another change.

However, despite chances for Thompson and Louis Zecevic John, Arsenal ended up being beaten by an Ipswich side that are second bottom in the table.

Even considering the fact that Arsenal fielded several schoolboys, it was still a very disappointing result in what has been a hugely concerning season at this level.

There are ten games remaining for Arsenal U18s this campaign, starting with an away fixture against West Bromwich Albion on Tuesday.
