The Carolina Panthers have had a really solid first week of NFL free agency, adding strong core pieces on defense in Jaelen Phillips and Devin Lloyd, and also landing offensive line help with Rasheed Walker. However, Carolina still has a positional void on special teams.
If you go to the Panthers’ depth chart page, courtesy of OurLads.com, there is no punter on the roster, which isn’t alarming, but it seems the team won’t re-sign 2025 punter Sam Martin at this point.
Rumors are surely going to be swirling as the free agency period continues, but the options are dwindling at many skill position groups. However, the Panthers are being urged to pursue former Falcons punter Bradley Pinion.

Special teams players usually aren’t the hottest commodity when free agency begins, so it’s not uncommon to see kickers and punters draw out their market longer than other position groups.
But with the Panthers not having a punter on the roster, they will have to sign one eventually.
In a recent ‘5 free agents still available’ article by SI.com’s Zach Roberts, former Falcons punter Bradley Pinion is named as an option the Panthers could target.
Roberts gives the reason of Bradley Pinion being a veteran option that could fill the void. Pinion is an 11-year NFL veteran who made 64 total punts with Atlanta in 2025, and operated with a 45.1-yard average punt.
After four strong seasons with the Falcons, Atlanta has already made a punter signing with the addition of Jake Bailey. This leaves Pinion searching for a new job, and while he might come at a relatively high price for his services due to his veteran status, Carolina should consider making him an offer.

Should the Panthers Sign Bradley Pinion?
This question will be up to the Panthers’ GM, Dan Morgan, but it’s fair to note that Pinion was also a former draft pick in the NFL, which is rare for a special teams player.
He could really help the Panthers flip the field, and at times in 2025, the offense struggled to move the ball, which highlights the need for a strong leg at the punter position.
There will likely be a competition for the starting job come August, but Bradley Pinion would be a good addition to this Panthers team heading into the upcoming season.
