Arsenal are expected to push through their first deal of the summer.
Arsenal may already have decided on their first summer transfer, and they don’t even know if they will win the Premier League title yet. The Gunners are going the right way about their title bid, going into this weekend with a seven-point advantage, albeit they have played a game more.
Mikel Arteta has a superb squad at his disposal, and it will be interesting to see how much the squad changes ahead of next season.
Arsenal may have to fend off big offers for top players, but more likely, they will have to convince players who are not starting as often as they would like to stay at the club if interest arrives.
Those are the types of players other clubs will try to pick off from this Arsenal squad, but this is an exciting project to be involved in, so the Gunners certainly have plenty of pull of their own.
One player Arsenal need to decide whether they want to keep, and at a premium cost, is defender Piero Hincapie, who joined from Bayer Leverkusen on a loan deal with an option to buy in the summer.
Arsenal have a £45million option to buy in the deal, and Hincapie has been doing well, especially with regular starts over the last month or so. He is also able to play at centre-back and full-back, which is a very useful trait.
And according to Leverkusen chief Simon Rolfes, Arsenal are likely to pull the trigger on the deal. “Because of Covid, there was never the environment or the opportunity to say goodbye to him [Havertz], even if we saw each other afterwards,” he said, as quoted by SportBible. “But now I think it’s a very special setting for him to come back to the BayArena, and for Piero too, of course.
“He’s still officially our player and is only on loan at the moment, but it will come to the transfer and I think for Piero it’s just as special too.”
