Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards injury scare

Anthony Edwards of the Minnesota Timberwolves reacts after making a three-point shot against the Golden State Warriors.
Anthony Edwards delivered another superstar performance Friday night — and then gave the Minnesota Timberwolves a brief scare before ultimately reassuring everyone he was fine.
Edwards scored 42 points to lead Minnesota to a 127-117 victory over the Golden State Warriors at Chase Center, helping the Timberwolves halt a three-game losing streak that had included a string of double-digit defeats.
But the biggest storyline by the end of the night wasn’t just Edwards’ scoring explosion. It was a tense moment late in the game when the All-Star guard grabbed at his right knee — a development that briefly raised concerns for Minnesota.
Fortunately for the Timberwolves, the scare proved to be nothing serious.
“I’m good,” Edwards said afterward.
Edwards Plays Through Knee Soreness
The late-game moment wasn’t the first sign of Edwards dealing with discomfort.
The 24-year-old had appeared on the Timberwolves’ injury report just hours before tipoff, listed as questionable due to right knee soreness. Despite the uncertainty, Edwards never seriously considered sitting out.
“Yeah, there was some doubt. Yeah, for sure,” Edwards said. “But I’m good.”
He backed up that claim with one of his most dominant performances of the season.
Edwards finished 13-of-22 from the field and knocked down all 12 of his free throws while adding eight rebounds and five assists in a commanding all-around outing.
Timberwolves Snap Three-Game Skid
Minnesota entered Friday’s game in need of a response.
The Timberwolves had lost three straight games — all by double digits — including a 153-128 defeat to the Los Angeles Clippers earlier in the week. The slide followed a five-game winning streak that had previously fueled the team’s momentum.
Edwards made sure the skid didn’t continue.
Minnesota also received a strong supporting performance from Rudy Gobert, who contributed 18 points and nine rebounds while anchoring the defense.
Edwards Slams the Door on Warriors Rally
Golden State mounted one final push late in the fourth quarter.
After a layup by Brandin Podziemski cut Minnesota’s lead to 122-113, the Warriors appeared to have a glimmer of hope with just over a minute remaining.
Edwards quickly erased it.
The Timberwolves star attacked the rim on the next possession, scoring his 40th point of the night to push the lead to 124-113 and effectively seal the victory.
Timberwolves Avoid Major Injury Concern
Still, the Timberwolves held their breath moments later when Edwards grabbed at his right knee while jogging back up the floor.
Given his importance to Minnesota’s postseason hopes, the brief gesture immediately caught attention.
Head coach Chris Finch downplayed the situation afterward.
“No, not really [a concern],” Finch said. “Just something that he’s been dealing with lately.”
Edwards appeared to reinforce that assessment.
After the game, he was spotted getting in a light workout outside the visiting locker room while wearing a sleeve on his right leg — a reassuring sign that the issue had not escalated.
For a Timberwolves team trying to regain momentum, Edwards’ 42-point performance mattered.
But the confirmation that he avoided a serious injury may have mattered even more.
