'Rules him out': The real reason Filip Jorgensen is missing from Chelsea squad vs Newcastle

Filip Jorgensen was largely responsible for Chelsea’s collapse against Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday night.

Jorgensen’s unforced error gifted PSG their third goal, and he should have saved Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s 94th-minute strike.

Many Blues supporters then called for the goalkeeper to be dropped from the starting eleven against Newcastle.

At first glance, one would assume that this had happened, but there is another reason for his latest absence at Stamford Bridge.

Filip Jorgensen suffers injury ahead of Newcastle game

Liam Rosenior confirmed before the Newcastle game that Jorgensen had not been dropped for his performance against PSG.

The Blues boss revealed to Sky Sports that Jorgensen had actually picked up a groin injury in the last few days.

Academy graduate Teddy Sharman-Lowe, who started for Chelsea’s under-21s on Monday, was named on the bench instead.

“I’ve got two very good goalkeepers,” Rosenior explained his decision. “Obviously, there has been a lot of talk and noise around them both, but they’re both very good in their own right.

What should Liam Rosenior’s next move be?🤔

“Filip has a groin issue, which unfortunately rules him out for today, and I’m delighted that Rob is back in because he can show what a good goalkeeper he is.”

Rosenior did not say whether Jorgensen would have started over Sanchez if he were available for selection.

All we know is that the head coach does not have a clear-cut first-choice goalkeeper, meaning fans can expect further rotation.
