Chelsea followed up their 5-2 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain with another disappointing result in the Premier League.
The Blues fell to a 1-0 defeat to Newcastle after they were beaten far too easily by a simple counter-attack.
Liam Rosenior’s side dominated possession throughout the match, but they failed to create many clear-cut chances.
Here are The Chelsea Chronicle’s player ratings following a frustrating evening at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea player ratings vs Newcastle
Robert Sanchez – 6/10
Most Chelsea fans wanted Robert Sanchez to replace Filip Jorgensen in the starting eleven against Newcastle. It would be too generous to say that he restored confidence, but at least he did not make any crucial mistakes.
Malo Gusto – 5/10
Malo Gusto gave the ball away a few times and delivered several poor crosses in the first half. He was substituted at the interval as Rosenior made an attacking change to turn around the Blues’ 1-0 deficit.
Wesley Fofana – 5/10
Wesley Fofana had nothing to do with Newcastle’s goal. However, he did receive a yellow card in the 24th minute for stopping a dangerous Newcastle counter-attack. Fofana was substituted for Jorrel Hato with seven minutes to go.

Trevoh Chalobah – 4/10
Reece James was probably more to blame for Anthony Gordon’s goal, but Trevoh Chalobah also could have done more to prevent it from happening. Chalobah did not need to follow Nick Woltemade’s run to the left side of the defence and leave a huge gap in the centre.
Marc Cucurella – 7/10
Marc Cucurella put in a steady performance at left-back. He did little to catch the eye in the first half but he went forward and made a nuisance of himself a few times in the second.
Reece James – 5/10
Reece James was at fault for Newcastle’s opening goal, as he failed to track Joe Willock’s run from midfield. Apart from that mistake, he played well in midfield in the first half and at right-back in the second.
Moises Caicedo – 5/10
Moises Caicedo was unfortunate to pick up an early yellow card, which then limited how combative he could be in the centre of the pitch. He was replaced by Romeo Lavia just after the hour mark.
Enzo Fernandez – 4/10
Enzo Fernandez looked like he had not fully recovered from Wednesday’s game against Paris Saint-Germain. He put in a hard-working shift in midfield, as he always does, but he lacked his usual composure on the ball.

Cole Palmer – 6/10
Cole Palmer looked sharp throughout the contest and was probably the most likely Chelsea player to make something happen. However, he had a few decent chances that needed better finishes to beat Aaron Ramsdale.
Joao Pedro – 5/10
Joao Pedro’s hold-up play has been as impressive as his goalscoring lately, but his touch often let him down against Newcastle. His move into attacking midfield in the second half also did not have the desired effect.
Alejandro Garnacho – 6/10
Alejandro Garnacho struggled to make an impact on the game. Newcastle right-back Tino Livramento had an easy first half, as Garnacho was consistently reluctant to take him on. The Argentinian looked slightly more dangerous in the second half, but he still did not do enough.
Substitutes
Liam Delap – 6/10
Romeo Lavia – 6/10
Jorrel Hato – N/A
