Everton player ratings vs Arsenal, James Garner outshone by 8/10 unsung hero

Everton saw a point snatched from their hands late on in the game after Viktor Gyokeres and Max Dowman sealed an Arsenal win.

David Moyes will feel incredibly hard done by as his Everton side were more than a match for the Gunners in north London.

Dwight McNeil went close after striking the post from distance, but a poor moment from Jordan Pickford opened the for Arsenal to claim the win.

Who was your Man of the Match in what was a positive performance? 👏

The players deserved so much more… 😡

The Toffees deserved more from this game, but were left to rue an individual error from their goalkeeper.

Jordan Pickford – 6

Pulled off yet another stunning save to deny an offside Bukayo Saka. All of his hard work was undone by his involvement in the winning goal.

How have we come away from that with nothing? 😫

James Garner – 8

Another seamless return for James Garner at the right-back position. No one will be surprised, but he was absolutely brilliant yet again.

Jake O’Brien – 7

Jake O’Brien has wanted to return to centre-back and he finally got his wish from Moyes. Provided Everton with total aerial dominance and slotted into the central role with ease.

Michael Keane – 8

He was perhaps a tad fortunate not to have given away a penalty in the first-half. Otherwise, Michael Keane was a brick wall at the back for the Blues.

Vitalii Mykolenko – 7

Coming up against Saka, Vitalii Mykolenko put in a good account for himself. A burst of pace going forward in the second half was also good to see.

Idrissa Gana Gueye – 7

Was there a blade of grass that Idrissa Gana Gueye did not cover? The Everton man was absolutely everywhere.

Moyes has noticed big improvements from Gueye since his return from AFCON and he was brilliant against the Gunners.

Tim Iroegbunam – 8

Coming into the starting XI in place of Garner, Tim Iroegbunam produced another impressive showing.

The midfielder made four tackles, which was four more than Gueye, as he went on to win seven of his 10 ground duels.

Dwight McNeil – 8

Whatever you think of Dwight McNeil, you have got to give him credit for how he’s handled his collapsed transfer.

Denied a goal by an incredible Riccardo Calafiori block and then saw a stunning effort hit the post. Another solid display from the 26-year-old.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall – 7

An industrious performance from Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall. Did not make a huge impact in the final third, but put in the hard yards.

Iliman Ndiaye – 7

A quiet second 45 minutes for Iliman Ndiaye, but he was a threat throughout the first-half.

Beto – 6

Maintaining his spot in the starting XI, it was clear Beto’s job was to do his best in holding the ball up against the Arsenal centre-back pairing.

Had a good opportunity denied by David Raya in the second-half.

Substitutes

Thierno Barry – 5

Came on with a good chunk of the game remaining, but he simply was not strong enough against William Saliba.

Harrison Armstrong – N/A

Merlin Rohl – N/A
