Mikel Arteta pays David Moyes classy compliment after Everton vs Arsenal

Everton were so unlucky not to come away with a point against Arsenal.

It looked as though the Toffees were going to frustrate the league leaders by holding them to a goalless draw at the Emirates Stadium.

David Moyes’ side defended extremely well and had a few moments of their own, but Viktor Gyokeres netted an 89th-minute goal before Max Dowman sealed all three points in stoppage time.

How have we come away from that with nothing? 😫

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, who played under Moyes during his playing career, was complimentary about the Scotsman post-match.

Mikel Arteta says Everton are so well coached

Speaking to the media after the game, Arteta heaped praise on Everton and explained that Moyes has them so well coached.

“(They are a) very hard, very good side,” the Arsenal boss said.

“They are really well coached. They are very difficult to break down. You have to be calm and I think we showed our maturity today.”

Moyes admitted he was gutted with the result and noted that his players gave absolutely everything.

“Totally gutted,” the 62-year-old stated.

“We did such a good job for long period of the game. No disappointment in terms of our performance, the players gave everything, we just lost out in the final moments of the game.

“The block from Dwight McNeil from Calafiori is unbelievable. At the end of the game, they had more saves than Jordan Pickford. Moments like that didn’t quite go our way.”

Defeat leaves Everton in eighth place, just one point behind the Conference League spot, so they’re still in a good position heading into the final eight games of the season.

Moyes and his staff will have an eye on Brentford’s game on Monday, as the seventh-placed side host Wolverhampton Wanderers.

They’ll be hoping the West Midlanders can pull off an upset, just like they have against Liverpool and Aston Villa in recent weeks.
