In his post-match press conference this evening, Liam Rosenior was asked to talk about where he thought things had gone wrong for his team. He boiled the defeat down to two issues.
“For me, it’s two aspects. One, we lacked a little bit of mental freshness in the final third. A combination or the right decision or that bit of quality in the moment,” the manager said.
“The second thing is we need to make sure we say – ‘if we’re not going to score, the other team don’t score’. The disappointing thing today for me is we haven’t kept a clean sheet when Newcastle, if they’re being honest, didn’t really create much. We give them a goal and that’s something that I really, really need to solve for us to improve in the future.”
Chelsea have problems in key areas and no easy solutions
So basically it was just the defending and attacking that were bad today then? Fix those two aspects and we’ll be looking rosy again. Oh, and let’s not forget we’ve got problems in goal too…
In other news…
The manager also got sidetracked talking about the ridiculous pre-match huddle situation.
Rosenior also claimed that the goal his team conceded had been down to a “tactical issue” and lamented how all the mistakes his team were making were leading to goals.
