The Giants have signed wide receiver Darnell Mooney to a one-year, $10 million contract in free agency

The New York Giants have been hard at work ensuring they will take a step forward in 2025. The hiring of John Harbaugh as their new head coach was a good start, but the improvements New York makes to its roster over the next few months will ultimately determine how successful it is when it returns to action for the upcoming campaign.

While the Giants have made some solid moves in free agency, they were dealt a big blow when wide receiver Wan’Dale Robinson signed a four-year, $78 million contract with the Tennessee Titans. Finding a proper No. 2 wide receiver for quarterback Jaxson Dart quickly became a big need for the front office, and it appears they have found their guy in Darnell Mooney.

A fifth-round pick of the Chicago Bears in the 2020 NFL Draft, Mooney quickly turned himself into an immediate contributor, despite being a Day 3 pick. That led to the best season of his career in 2021, which saw him rack up 81 receptions for 1,055 yards and four touchdowns. Mooney struggled to make the same sort of impact over the next two years, though, and he ended up signing with the Atlanta Falcons in free agency.

2024 was a return to form for Mooney, as he caught 64 passes for 992 yards and a career-high five touchdowns. With the offense falling apart in 2025, though, Mooney’s numbers tanked, and he got released ahead of free agency. After the first wave of signings was made across the league, Mooney ended up being one of the top players available at his position.

The Giants are poised to get Malik Nabers back on the field after he suffered a torn ACL in Week 4, but losing Robinson, who was set to be the team’s No. 2 receiver, left a big hole that needed to be filled. It looks like Mooney will be Robinson’s replacement, as reports indicate he’s signed a one-year, $10 million contract with New York.

“Falcons FA WR Darnell Mooney, one of the top players available at his position, is expected to sign with the Giants on a 1-year deal worth up to $10M, sources say,” Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported in a post on X. “Another weapon for Jaxson Dart in a deal done by David Mulugheta and A.J. Stevens of Athletes First.”

Dart endured an uneven season under center for the Giants, but that was due in large part to the rash of injuries the team dealt with on offense. Robinson became his top target largely because no one else was on the field, and while he’s a talented receiver, that’s a role that Nabers is more suited to fill moving forward.

Mooney will now have to work on getting on the same page as Dart, but considering what he just came from in Atlanta, working with the second-year passer should be an upgrade for the veteran wideout. This is a bit of a prove-it deal for Mooney, but if all goes according to plan, he could be in line for a big payday next offseason.
