Seahawks sign cornerback who was a former first-round pick

Entering Saturday with just three cornerbacks on their roster, the Seahawks added two by the afternoon, the latest being Noah Igbinoghene, a former first-round pick of the Dolphins who spent the last two seasons with the Washington Commanders.

The Athletic first reported that Igbinoghene had agreed to a one-year contract and The Seattle Times confirmed the agreement.

Seattle earlier in the day reached agreement with cornerback Shemar Jean-Charles, who spent last season on the Seahawks’ practice squad without playing in a game.

The 5-foot-11, 197-pound Igbinoghene has started 17 games in his NFL career, including 10 with Washington in 2024 when he also started the Commanders’ divisional playoff game upset win at Detroit and the NFC title game the following week.

He played a career-high 818 snaps in 2024 when he had career highs of 55 tackles and seven passes defensed.

Igbinoghene began the 2025 season with Washington as a reserve but played more down the stretch as the Commanders finished 5-12 and then became an unrestricted free agent last week.

Igbinoghene was the 30th-overall pick of the 2020 draft by Miami out of Auburn but failed to earn a consistent starting role with the Dolphins and was traded to Dallas shortly before the 2023 season. He signed with Washington before the 2024 season, reuniting with Dan Quinn — who had been his defensive coordinator with the Cowboys — and then again last year.

Igbinoghene played mostly in the slot with Washington but played mostly on the outside with Miami.

He was rated the 220th available free agent this year by Pro Football Focus which wrote: “Igbinoghene was subpar yet again in 2025, finishing with a 54.4 PFF coverage grade and a 96.6 passer rating allowed. Further, his 15.2 yards per reception were among the 16 worst figures for qualified corners. Owning a career 38.9 coverage grade, opportunities could soon grow scant for the 2020 first-round selection.’’

The Seahawks will hope that they can harness the talent that got him taken in the first round and see if he can help fill out the depth at cornerback. Seattle will return Devon Witherspoon and Josh Jobe as the starters and now have Nehemiah Pritchett, Jean-Charles and Igbinoghene competing for backup spots.

Details of Igbinoghene’s contract were not immediately known but it is likely a deal that will not impact the formula for awarding compensatory picks. Seattle is currently projected to get four comp picks for 2027 — a fourth and three fifths — for free-agent losses incurred.
