The New Orleans Saints have one of the more interesting players who could be available depending on the situation. It’s been more than a month since quarterback Derek Carr stated he would return to the NFL to play for a Super Bowl contender. However, there has been no news on that front since the initial report. Let’s take a closer look at an update regarding this situation.

Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio reported that the New Orleans Saints have not received any calls regarding trading for Carr. This is not too surprising given that teams are allocating their salary cap in other spots, and can feel like they have the quarterback room they are comfortable with. There is also not as many suitors for a quarterback who retired ahead of last season after shoulder surgery.
This could simply be due to the fact that teams can attack the quarterback position in different ways. With names like Tua Tagovailoa and Kyler Murray being released and signed, that fills up potential landing spots for Carr. In addition, the Pittsburgh Steelers are in the midst of waiting on what Aaron Rodgers’ decision will be regarding his future, they are also a team that seemingly would be interested.
It will be intriguing to see if the New Orleans Saints will be getting any calls before the NFL Draft. Just because they have not gotten any calls doesn’t mean a deal will not be made. Remember that now quarterbacks can follow a Phillip Rivers-like trajectory and join a team off the streets with a deal being made as soon as a contending team suffers a quarterback injury. He comes with a major contract hit as well, so some work would have to be done for a deal to be made.
