West Ham’s history against Man City makes for grim reading – but they may have an ace up their…

West Ham United welcome Manchester City to London Stadium, facing the unenviable task of ending their unwanted 20-game winless record (D3, L17) against the Cityzens in the Premier League.

You’d have to go back to September 2015 for the last time West Ham secured a win against City.

To further rub salt in their wounds, West Ham have never beaten Man City at the London Stadium in the Premier League in nine attempts (D2, L7).

But if there was a time to set each of these records straight, it has to be this weekend.

The Hammers are starting this matchweek in the bottom three, but a positive result could help them leapfrog Nottingham Forest, albeit only temporarily.

Nevertheless, having won seven of their last 11 games, West Ham will fancy their chances of keeping their head above water.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side are undoubtedly coming into this game as massive underdogs – that much is clear to the fans, including those watching through soccer streams.

However, the Hammers may have an ace up their sleeve that may be enough to help them snatch a point against the title-chasing Cityzens.

West Ham’s Premier League record against City

With just nine games left in the campaign, West Ham can’t afford to take anything for granted.

They must treat every game like a final to bolster their chances of survival, and even the daunting clash with City must be approached as an opportunity rather than a lost cause.

It will be a huge test for Nuno’s side, but football has a way of throwing up unexpected results, and this may be one of those instances.

If the Hammers could somehow take points from Pep Guardiola’s side, it would be a massive morale boost for the dressing room heading into the final stretch.

However, the weight of the task at hand becomes much clearer when the history of this fixture is laid bare, as West Ham have struggled against City over the years.

As if going 20 games without a win against City wasn’t bad enough, West Ham have only scored 14 goals and conceded 55 times during that streak.

Victor Moses and Diafra Sakho were on the score sheet the last time West Ham beat City in September 2015, but it’s been one-way traffic since then.

City beat West Ham 3-0 in the reverse fixture this season, and have scored three or more goals across the last six meetings with the Hammers.

City’s away record gives West Ham hope, but Nuno must devise new attacking plan

The odds are heavily stacked against West Ham, and the numbers suggest another thrashing may be on the cards, but there’s at least one small reason for the Hammers to believe an upset is possible.

While getting maximum points against City will undeniably be an uphill task, the visitors’ away form has been far from sparkling this season.

Guardiola’s side have won seven of their 14 league matches on the road (D3, L4), racking up 24 points and a modest goal difference of plus seven.

Those numbers may not look like much, but they’re enough to give West Ham hopes of getting a result on home turf. But Nuno must devise a new attacking plan to capitalise.

West Ham will have to take on City without talisman Crysencio Summerville, who was the unfortunate casualty of the club’s first FA Cup quarter-final berth in a decade.

The Dutchman picked up a knock that keeps him out of the game against City, which is a massive blow for both player and club, considering the form he’s in.

Summerville has been key to West Ham’s resurgence, bagging seven goals and an assist in his last 13 games. To further highlight his importance, they haven’t won any of their five league games without him in 2025/26.

The Dutchman also has a knack for setting West Ham on their way as four of his goals have put the Hammers 1-0 up – the most of any player to score at least four times this season.

Without Summerville, Nuno must devise a new attacking plan to give his side a decent chance of hurting City’s backline.
