Cleveland Browns Remaining Needs & Routes To Solve Them

Edge Defender

They need to add another edge to the room to replace Cameron Thomas. It will likely be a cheaper veteran player and they would be smart to join a loaded defensive line who will elevate their stock on a cheaper one year deal. I expect them to add a player during the draft too as they look to add more talent for next year when only Garrett and Wright are under contract.

Defensive Tackle

Potentially the room is done but we don't know Kalia Davis' contract status yet and what is guaranteed. I would like some more talent there for depth but maybe they are higher on the Davis and Huntington depth to round out the position room and then let them battle other UDFAs.

They could shock teams with a move for DJ Reader or Christian Wilkins here.

Linebacker

They will add some more cheap veterans such as bringing back Jerome Baker or Mohamoud Diabate. Winston Reid could be a fourth or fifth linebacker option for the team.

Other names could be Germaine Pratt, Eric Kendricks or Jack Sanborn as veteran third options.

Cornerback

They still need to find a slot cornerback option and Mike Hilton is currently the player with the most name recognition on the free agency list.

They have added Avery and Ross who can be fifth cornerbacks playing purely special teams, or even land on a practice squad and be elevated when needed.

Martin Emerson should be looking to go elsewhere, as there will be teams without two boundary cornerbacks locked in but as things stand he hasn't been linked to other teams so a return is possible. Sam Webb appears to be a player they will attempt to bring back, but only at a manageable number rather than the RFA tender.

A draft pick seems a lock for this position room as things stand.

Safety

How they view Hickman will be telling with what they do. If they don't add anyone else of note it sets it up for Hickman to start in 2026. They could look to add a third safety and roll with more big nickel packages with the third safety instead. There was a lot of movement over the last few days meaning the position is rather bare in free agency but more players could hit the market as the offseason continues.

Special Teams

With how Corey Bojorquez's deal is structured they have the flexibility to get out of it with only a $187,500 dead cap if he lands on another team for the rest of the season. This points to them adding a UDFA punter to potentially battle him for the final 53. With the other two positions in the room they could look at other options too but those two feel more secure as things stand.
