DONEGAL defender Brendan McCole is expecting a great test when they travel to Dr Hyde Park to face Roscommon this Sunday in the latest round of the National Football League.
Jim McGuinness’s side maintained their unbeaten record in the National Football League last time out, sharing the spoils with Galway in an entertaining encounter at Father Tierney Park in Ballyshannon which ended 1-17-0-20.
A victory for Donegal this weekend would secure them a place in the Division 1 League Final which takes place at the end of the month, marking the county’s first appearance in it since 2007.
However, Mark Dowd’s Roscommon outfit have performed excellently in the top tier this term following their promotion from Division 2 last year and they’ll provide a stern test this Sunday.
They currently occupy fourth place in the standings, having picked up six points from wins over Monaghan, Armagh and Galway.
They’ve serious scoring power in the forward department, with Diarmuid Murtagh and Daire Cregg currently holding first and second position in the scoring chart for Division 1.
This is something that the St Naul’s full-back is very aware of heading into this weekend’s encounter and he’s expecting a great challenge when they travel to the Connacht outfit.
“Absolutely, they’re probably the dark horse of this year. A lot of people would’ve doubted them but when you look at their forward line, you look at their players and you look at St Brigids, it’s no surprise.
“They’re a super team, they’re very dangerous and their confidence is up at the minute so it’s going to be a great test.”
