Eddie Howe shocked after learning of Newcastle's dreadful record away at Chelsea before win

Eddie Howe managed to lead Newcastle United to a 1-0 win over Chelsea on Saturday in a massive blow to the Blues.

Chelsea are still in the top five in the Premier League table, but Liverpool can overtake them with victory against Tottenham Hotspur.

While Newcastle were able to beat Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, in the past, they have had a very tough time there.

Newcastle hadn’t won at Stamford Bridge in 14 years

Heading into their game against the Club World Cup winners, Howe had no idea that Newcastle’s record at the Bridge was so bad.

Before Saturday, their last win against Chelsea in west London came in 2012, much to Howe’s surprise.

In his post-match press conference, the 48-year-old said via Hayters TV: “I wasn’t aware the record was that bad here for us, so it’s nice to end that and get the win on so many levels today.”

Newcastle will now turn their attention to Barcelona in the Champions League, while Chelsea will be focusing on Paris Saint-Germain.

Liam Rosenior’s side head into the second leg of their last 16 tie against PSG 5-2 down, making qualification for the quarter-finals almost impossible.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia thinks Chelsea are a good team, but they looked like anything but after his brace against them at the Parc des Princes.

Chelsea’s last home loss to Newcastle before this season

Every Chelsea fan will remember the club’s home defeat to Newcastle back in the 2011/12 season.

They lost 2-0 that day, with Papiss Cisse scoring one of the greatest goals in Premier League history at Stamford Bridge.

Before Saturday’s loss to Newcastle, it was the last time that Chelsea had been beaten by the Magpies in their backyard.

Chelsea went on to win the Champions League that season, which they needed to do to qualify for the tournament the following campaign.

Defeats such as the one against Newcastle saw them finish sixth. If this current Chelsea team are not careful, they are also going to miss out on the top five. And this time, there will be no Champions League glory to save the club.
