Ever since expressing his desire to be better than Steph Curry, some members of the Golden State Warriors fanbase have been harsh on Brandin Podziemski. The young guard has been subjected to plenty of criticism, and one radio host recently hit him with a harsh reality check.
Speaking to reporters during training camp, Podziemski dropped an eyebrow-raising remark about wanting to surpass Curry.
“To be honest, not everybody wants to be as great as Steph Curry. Some people say it, but not everybody wants to,” Podziemski said, via Dalton Johnson of NBC Sports Bay Area. “So it’s how can you find that balance of what you want to do, and be as great as you can be. … I want to be better than him. I think that’s a tall task, but I want to maximize my talent in the league and get as much out of it as I can.”
The confidence was there for Podziemski, but the results on the court have been mixed throughout the season. His comments became ammunition for people every time he has a bad game, which was something that Draymond Green warned him about.
KNBR Radio Host Calls Podziemski Delusional
On a recent episode of the Papa & Silver show on KNBR radio, host Greg Silver didn’t mince his words about Porziemski. Silver was reacting to new San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Mike Evans‘ comments about being the missing piece for the franchise.
Silver then compared Evans’ confidence to what Podziemski said about trying to be better than Curry, calling the 23-year-old delusional.
“Some players earn the right to be delusional,” Silver said, via Nick San Miguel of FanSided’s BlueManHoop. “It’s better that it comes from a guy like Mike Evans than a younger player like Brandin Podziemski.”

Evans is a Super Bowl champion, a two-time All-Pro and a potential Hall of Famer when it’s all said and done. Podziemski, on the other hand, has yet to average 13 points or more in a season in his career.
Regardless of how Podziemski has performed in his young career, San Miguel argued that it’s unfair criticism to focus the attention on the young player. However, as Green mentioned after Podziemski’s remarks, it was something that could be used against him.
Steve Kerr Explains Why Podziemski Gets Crucial Minutes

Some Warriors fans have been baffled by coach Steve Kerr‘s “fascination” with Podziemski. Earlier this month, Kerr was finally asked on 95.7 The Game’s Willard & Dibs why he prefers Podziemski in his rotation.
“He’s got a really good feel for the game,” Kerr said, via Tristi Rodriguez of NBC Sports Bay Area. “When he’s off the ball, he’s one of the best defensive players we have on our team, and I know people may not see that, but it’s the anticipation, it’s playing on the weak side, it’s weak sidehelp, it’s being disruptive, taking charges. He’s one of our best rebounders.”
Kerr added that Podziemski’s offense still needs work, but he likes his ability to generate shots for the team. Whether it’s by running through the catch or close-outs, he admires the way he plays and the energy he provides is vital.
With Curry’s continued absence, the Warriors have no choice but to rely on Podziemski to generate their offense.
