Jets biggest remaining need after free agent spending is 'easy answer'

Coming into the 2026 offseason, the New York Jets were in dire need of help on both sides of the ball. It's been a busy first week, and they've addressed a ton of those needs already.

They have their new quarterback in Geno Smith and a new left guard, Dylan Parham. And on defense, they added Demario Davis, Kingsley Enagbare, David Onyemata, T'Vondre Sweat, Joseph Ossai, Nahshon Wright, Minkah Fitzpatrick, and Dane Belton.

But, following those moves, there is a very clear need remaining for the Jets. As Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic writes, the "easy answer" for the Jets' top need is a wide receiver to pair with Garrett Wilson.

Jets 'easy answer' for biggest offseason need is WR

"Wide receiver is the easy answer here," Rosenblatt writes. "The Jets have been trying to find some consistency opposite Garrett Wilson ever since he came into the NFL..."

While they've searched for a true number two receiver, the Jets haven't been able to find such a player. With a few interesting free agents still on the board, in Tyreek Hill, Stefon Diggs, and Jauan Jennings, the Jets could look to the open market for this need.

But, they're more likely to hope to land one of the top receivers in the 2026 NFL Draft in Makai Lemon, Carnell Tate, or Jordyn Tyson. If not one of those options, they could land KC Concepcion or Omar Cooper Jr. after the first wave of rookie WRs go in the draft.

Regardless of how they do it, the Jets need to add another wide receiver opposite Wilson going forward. Currently, they have a few interesting options, but they are more depth options, and not starter-caliber players.

Adonai Mitchell has some incredible highs and lows. Isaiah Williams is an interesting wide receiver as well, but he's not ready for a full-time role just yet.

Behind them are Arian Smith, a speedy receiver who didn't show much in 2025, and depth options in Irvin Charles, Jamaal Pritchett, Quentin Skinner, and Mac Dalena.

The Jets need to add at least one more receiver this offseason, and ideally, they would add a few depth options as well to round out a better supporting cast for Smith in 2026.

The Jets aren't going to contend for a Super Bowl next season, but with the right moves, they could be a pesky team every week.

Adding a true number two receiver and some extra depth would be huge for the Jets, as it's the "easy answer" to what their biggest need is after the first week of free agency.
