Renée Slegers enjoyed being back in the dugout for the first time in three weeks as we marked our return from the international break with a 2-0 win away to London City Lionesses on Sunday afternoon.
Goals from Olivia Smith and Stina Blackstenius ensured we made it eight wins in a row in all competitions.

“The international break was long so we’ve missed the players but the players have been working really hard with their national teams, so it was good to get them back and have a full week together and I think to prepare for this first game,” our head coach said.
“The circumstances were hard with the pitch and the wind. We had to deal with that and manage it so it wasn’t always the best technical football passing game that we’ve ever played but we had to win today, we had to do business today and we pride ourselves on defending.
“We have another clean sheet, so really proud of that and we should be really proud of that as a team because we do it together. And then we score an early goal in the first 15, and we score a late goal. Gamechangers. I’m really happy with how we found a way to win today in difficult circumstances.”
Renée touched on the togetherness and it was a real squad effort to get the three points with starters and finishers involved in our goals.
“I think we most of the time make five changes,” she added. “It’s really important how we start games for us, but we always know that often business is done at the end of games. You have to be really good at the end of games and high energy and high quality. That’s what we had today.”
It was a sellout fixture at Copperjax Community Stadium in Bromley but much of the noise came from the Arsenal supporters, some of whom were sat right behind Renée’s dugout.
“I think there was 1,500 today so almost one third of the crowd was Arsenal and they were sat close to us so we could hear them very clearly, so it was amazing,” she said.
