If Chelsea’s defeat to Newcastle United proved anything, it is that the Blues need to sign an experienced central defender this summer, and Bayern Munich’s Kim Min-jae is on the summer list.
Ever since Liam Rosenior arrived at Chelsea, centre-back has been a problem. The new gaffer, now 17 games into his Stamford Bridge stint, has chopped and changed before settling on two defenders.
As things stand, Trevoh Chalobah and Wesley Fofana are first choice in defence. But Jamie Redknapp criticised Fofana on Saturday, who has also earned bad publicity for his red card against Burnley.
Even when Chelsea lose, he’s brilliant 💥
The best right-back in the world!
Meanwhile, Chalobah has been unable to produce anything better, often caught out of position. Chelsea are supposedly willing to sell Chalobah, Tosin and Benoit Badiashile, possibly to make room for others.
What Bayern have said to Chelsea about Kim Min-jae
South Korea star Kim Min-jae has been regularly linked with Chelsea over the last few months. At Bayern, the former Napoli giant is struggling to start, and a move is widely expected for Kim this summer.
Now, BILD reporter Christian Falk has delivered an update amid Chelsea’s pursuit to sign the centre-back this summer. A clear indication that Chelsea are changing their approach and pursuing older players.

On the Bayern Insider podcast, Falk said: “At the moment, I’m not sure if he wanted this transfer at the moment, he’s quite confident with his role at Bayern Munich. Chelsea, yeah, they knocked on his door.
“But the club says we are fine with the situation. If there is an offer for about €40m, €30m, we can talk but there is no offer on the table. Kim himself has no intention to go to the club boss and say I want to leave.
“So at the moment I think it’s a little bit quiet but it’s true that the clubs are interested in him because he’s doing a very good job at the moment,” Falk said about the Bayern Munich defender as things stand.
Kim Min-jae is the answer to Chelsea’s defensive problems
The stats say Tosin is Chelsea’s best in the air. Yet, the former Fulham and Man City defender is struggling to start for Chelsea after his hamstring injury. It leaves Chelsea vulnerable in the middle of the defence.
Who do you prefer – Liam Rosenior or Enzo Maresca?
Let us know why in the comments!
Of the 35 goals conceded by Chelsea in the Premier League, 11 have been from crosses whether that be set-pieces or in open play. What Chelsea need, is a big commanding defender that is solid in the air.
Kim is just that. While he is composed with the ball at his feet, Kim is a giant. He is more than willing to put his body on the line and in a way, plays like John Terry. He’s just what Chelsea need in the defence.
