Steelers Will Have Plenty Of Options To Replace Isaac Seumalo In Draft

The Pittsburgh Steelers lost LG Isaac Seumalo in free agency, and they haven’t made a move to sign a veteran guard to replace him. The team is reportedly comfortable rolling with Spencer Anderson, who has steadily improved throughout his career, but Pittsburgh could still look to the NFL Draft. If the Steelers do want to bring in an interior offensive lineman, Daniel Jeremiah is a big fan of some Day 2 options.

The NFL Media draft guru tweeted out six players he believes could be “quality starting” interior offensive linemen and could be had on day two in the draft. Jeremiah listed Oregon’s Emmanuel Pregnon, Texas A&M’s Chase Bisontis, Georgia Tech’s Keylan Rutledge, Iowa’s Gennings Dunker and Logan Jones, as well as Kansas State’s Sam Hecht.

You can find quality starting interior OL on day 2 in this draft. Some of my favorites here:

Bisontis (A&M)

Pregnon (OR)

Rutledge (GT)

Dunker (Iowa)

Hecht (K State)

Jones (Iowa)

There’s a chance that Bisonitis and Pregnon don’t make it to Pittsburgh’s second-round pick. The Steelers do have plenty of draft capital, though, and if they really like one of them, they could always try to move up. Even if those two are gone, there’s no shortage of options for the Steelers. Even if the team wants to start Anderson, he’ll be entering his fourth season and could hit free agency at the end of the year. If he has a strong season, he’s going to be costly to retain, and the Steelers could be better off drafting a guard to be ready to plug-and-play either this year or in 2027.

Rutledge and Dunker are two names that have been linked to the Steelers at various points this offseason. Our Alex Kozora gave Rutledge an 8.3 (long-time starter) grade in his scouting report. Meanwhile, Jim Hester gave Dunker an 8.1.

The Steelers helped themselves out through free agency, as there are no real glaring needs on their roster. But wide receiver and offensive line depth are among the biggest. If the Steelers don’t take an offensive lineman on Day 1, I would be shocked if they didn’t on Day 2. The team doesn’t even necessarily have to target guard, as an offensive tackle could make sense with uncertainty surrounding Broderick Jones’ health.

If they do go with a guard, they’ll have a plethora of good options and can likely find a long-term starter. Adding another young starter to an ascending offensive line could wind up being a big win for the Steelers, and we’ll see how they address the position come April.
