Uncertainty surrounding future of Chelsea boss Rosenior

Chelsea’s hopes of finishing in the top four in the Premier League and qualifying for next season’s Champions League were dealt a huge blow as they lost 1-0 against Newcastle United on Saturday.

Anthony Gordon’s earlier tap-in put the visitors ahead at Stamford Bridge, and the hosts were unable to find a response.

The defeat leaves Liam Rosenior’s side fifth in the Premier League table, however they will drop to sixth if Liverpool avoid defeat against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

Rosenior had enjoyed a fine start to his tenure in charge of the Blues, overseeing four consecutive Premier League wins after taking charge.

Recently, however, his side’s form has dipped, and the west London outfit are on the verge of exiting the Champions League after a 5-2 defeat against Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg of their last 16 tie on Wednesday.

Off the pitch, it is now emerging that uncertainty is starting to creep in regarding the future of Rosenior.

As reported by indykailaNews, some officials at Chelsea are becoming increasingly unconvinced about Rosenior, with belief growing that he may not be in charge of the Blues next year.

It is claimed that one member of the club’s hierarchy – who is based in the US – is eyeing current PSG boss Luis Enrique as a potential successor to Rosenior, who only took charge of the club in January.

Rosenior was appointed as Chelsea’s head coach following the departure of Enzo Maresca on New Year’s Day, but the Englishman has since overseen just ten of his 17 matches in charge, losing five times.

The West London outfit have endured a turbulent period since being taken over by BlueCo back in 2022, and it did appear at first that Rosenior would be given sufficient time to prove himself at Stamford Bridge having joined from Strasbourg, who are also part of the BlueCo ownership group.

According to the report, though, some of those in charge of the club believe the ex-Hull City boss will not be in charge next term.
