Arsenal and Manchester City have now stormed into the race to sign a £70m Premier League star ahead of the summer transfer window.
Gunners join race to sign new defender
The Gunners took another big step towards winning the title on Saturday, defeating Everton 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium, and Max Dowman secured all three points in stoppage time, with the 16-year-old becoming the Premier League's youngest-ever goalscorer.
John Terry has been left particularly impressed by the teenager, comparing him to one of the greatest players of all-time: "Max Dowman. What a player, by the way," Terry said. "16 years of age, almost 17, absolutely incredible."
"I watched him play against Chelsea about a year ago -- and I've not seen anyone glide past people like this man does, other than Messi. That's a big, big comparison, but this man is a proper talent and will play a big part in Arsenal's future, and also England's as well."
Dowman is one of many youngsters to break through in recent years, but Myles Lewis-Skelly's future at the Emirates Stadium is now in doubt, given a lack of game time this season.

As such, Arsenal may need to bring in a new left-back during the summer transfer window, and they have now stormed into the race to sign Newcastle star Lewis Hall, who is also being targeted by Premier League rivals Liverpool and Manchester City.
That is according to a report from Caught Offside, which makes it clear the Gunners may need to spend big to get a deal over the line, with a potential price tag of £65m - £70m touted.
A whole host of clubs from across Europe are in the race, but the Magpies have little interest in sanctioning a sale, given the left-back's importance, so it remains to be seen whether a deal will be possible.
"Absolute baller" Hall tearing it up at Newcastle
Scout Antonio Mango was left very impressed by the Englishman's performances last season, singling him out for very high praise on X.
During the ongoing campaign, the 21-year-old has continued to be an important player, making 23 Premier League appearances, during which time he's averaged 2.5 tackles per 90, which is more than anyone in Mikel Arteta's squad.
Lewis-Skelly is still young, at just 19-years-old, and the full-back has caught the eye at times this season, being lauded by Arteta for his performance in the 2-0 victory against Olympiacos.
As such, Arsenal should keep hold of the starlet, but if he does move on, Hall could be an excellent replacement.
