Bleacher Report's Gary Davenport argued Sean McVay and the Los Angeles Rams should pursue veteran cornerback L'Jarius Sneed in NFL free agency.

The Los Angeles Rams have already added two former Kansas City Chiefs cornerbacks this offseason. But pundits, fans and even players are calling for the Rams to add a third — L’Jarius Sneed.

On Sunday, Bleacher Report’s Gary Davenport joined the group in favor of the Rams signing the recently released veteran cornerback.

“Sneed didn’t live up to the fat contract he got from Tennessee, largely because of injuries. But in his last healthy season in Kansas City, he logged 78 total tackles and posted an outstanding passer rating against of just 56.2,” wrote Davenport.

“Adding Sneed to the Rams remodeled CB corps would turn the team’s biggest weakness in 2025 into a strength. And given Sneed’s disappointing tenure in Nashville, the 29-year-old could potentially be had on a relatively modest, short-term contract.”

Sneed won two Super Bowls during four seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs. During his final two seasons in Kansas City, he became a vital part of the team’s defense, which finished second in points and yards allowed during 2023.

In 2023, Sneed registered 78 combined tackles, including five tackles for loss, 14 pass defenses and two interceptions.

After initially placing the franchise tag on Sneed in the 2024 offseason, the Chiefs traded the cornerback to the Tennessee Titans in March 2024. The Titans then signed Sneed to a 4-year, $76.4 million contract.

Over two seasons, Sneed played just 12 games in Tennessee. During 2025, he had 26 combined tackles with three pass defenses in seven contests.

The Titans released Sneed on March 13.

Jaylen Watson Pitches Rams to Sign L’Jarius Sneed

The idea of the Rams targeting Sneed isn’t just floating in the media. New Rams cornerback Jaylen Watson, who played with Sneed in Kansas City, started recruiting the cornerback to Los Angeles about as soon as he hit the open market.

Watson posted a picture of him and Sneed celebrating their second Super Bowl win with the Chiefs.

Fellow cornerback Trent McDuffie also appeared to be in the photo. The Rams acquired McDuffie from Kansas City during the first week of free agency.

The three cornerbacks all won back-to-back Super Bowls with the Chiefs in 2022 and 2023.

Watson and McDuffie were both rookies on the 2022 Chiefs. During that season, Kansas City finished 18th in passing yards allowed and last in passing touchdowns yielded.

But in 2023, the Chiefs secondary greatly improved with their young defensive backs. Kansas City ended its Super Bowl title defense ranked fourth in passing yards allowed and passing touchdowns yielded.

Why the Rams Could Pursue Sneed

Overall, the Rams defense was above average in 2025. But Los Angeles was 19th in passing yards and passing touchdowns allowed. The Rams finished with those rankings despite facing the seventh-fewest pass attempts of any defense in the regular season.

With their Super Bowl window closing with Matthew Stafford behind center, the Rams are looking for quick solutions to get better in the secondary.

So far, that’s included two former Chiefs. The Rams acquired McDuffie from the Chiefs for four draft picks, including No. 29 overall in 2026. Los Angeles immediately signed McDuffie to a 4-year, $124 million extension.

The Rams then signed Watson to a 3-year, $51 million deal in free agency.

Could the Rams now reunite McDuffie and Watson with Sneed? It’s a possibility since Sneed is available in free agency.

Clearly, Watson is in favor. SB Nation’s Steven Ridings argued Sneed fits with Los Angeles from a schematic perspective as well.

“The potential move makes even more sense when examining the Rams’ evolving defensive philosophy. Over the past two seasons, Los Angeles has been gradually remodeling its secondary with a greater emphasis on physical press coverage,” Ridings wrote. “Rather than relying heavily on softer off-coverage looks, the Rams have begun prioritizing corners who can disrupt receivers at the line of scrimmage, reroute timing-based routes, and give their pass rush additional time to reach the quarterback.

“Sneed has built his reputation as exactly that type of defender. Gifted with excellent strength and length, he thrives in press-man situations where he can challenge receivers immediately after the snap.”

Coming off two injury-plagued seasons, Sneed could be a reclamation project, value pick up for the Rams. This offseason, Sneed is rehabbing from a quad injury.
