Since the beginning of the 2026 NFL offseason, the Philadelphia Eagles have been expected to work out a new contract with free agent tight end Dallas Goedert.
While there were other teams who attempted to steal Goedert away from the Eagles, he was able to agree to terms on a new one-year deal on Sunday afternoon.
That news was first reported by ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter.
“Sources: Tight end Dallas Goedert reached agreement today on a one-year deal to return to the Eagles for his ninth season in Philadelphia,” Schefter reported on X.
Following the news of the deal getting done between Philadelphia and Goedert, a new wrinkle involving star wide receiver A.J. Brown has been shared.
Eagles’ Dallas Goedert Deal Has Implications for A.J. Brown Trade
Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team took to social media to share how the new deal for Goedert actually makes trading Brown a more legitimate option for the Eagles.
“Had the Eagles not gotten a deal done with Dallas Goedert, more than $20M in dead money would have hit Philly’s salary cap. That now gets kicked into the future. This at least leaves the possibility of trading A.J. Brown open. If Philly trades Brown before June 1, they would take on significant dead cap,” Meirov wrote.
“Taking on dead money from Goedert leaving and trading Brown would have been nearly impossible. Now there is at least a pathway if Philly decides to move him if the right offer comes along.”
Brown has been the subject of trade rumors all offseason long. Nothing has gotten done yet, but the trade discussions are expected to continue on.
So far, the Los Angeles Rams and New England Patriots have been the most connected teams to a potential trade for Brown.
What’s the Latest News on A.J. Brown Trade Discussions?
The Athletic has shared quite a bit of new reporting about Brown’s current status with the Eagles.
“The Philadelphia Eagles held serious conversations with both the Los Angeles Rams and New England Patriots about trading wide receiver A.J. Brown, but will not trade Brown at this time, multiple league sources tell The Athletic,” the report read.
“Both teams in recent weeks discussed trading for Brown, whose frustrations in Philadelphia were a running subplot of the Eagles’ 2025 season. While the Rams and Patriots remain interested, no move is imminent. If a trade were to happen, league sources say it would likely heat up closer to June 1.”
Brown is coming off of a 2025 NFL season with Philadelphia that saw him play in 15 games. He caught 78 passes for 1,003 yards and seven touchdowns.
At this point in time, there is no telling whether or not the Eagles will trade Brown. There still seems to be a legitimate chance of a deal coming together, but for now the 28-year-old wide receiver remains on the roster.
